In our review of last Wednesday morning we staled
that the dullness in the Colton market, arising from
the unfavorable character of (he steamer Hibernia’s
accounts, had caused prices for all descriptions below
Fair to decline from an eighth to a quarter of a cent,
in consequence of which we were enabled to report a
slight improvement in the demand on Tuesday, though
we remarked at the same time, that considerable dis
crepancy still prevailed between the views of buyers
and selleis. The market opened on Wednesday very
quietly, and it continued to maintain a heavy and in
active character throughout the day, the sales having
amounted to but 2700 bales, and these at rates that
barely supported the quotations. The transactions of
Thursday embraced only abeut 25(10bales, and the tuai
ket was characterized by even a greater deg ee of hea
viness than on the day before, with a stronger tenden
cy in prices to decline. Yesterday the demand was
again on a very limited scale, scarcely 3000 bales hav
ing been sold, and prices continued to exhibit a dioop
ing tendency. The liner grades, owing to ihetr re
lative scarcity, can hardly be considered as any lower
than before, bir all descriptions below Fair have de
dined fully an eighth of a cent, and we have altered
our quotations accordingly. On the whole, the mar
ket may be reported as being in a depressed and unset
tled condition A large majority of the buyers are
still unwilling to resume operations to any considera
ble extent, unless they can obtain further concessions
in prices, while holders, on the other hand, continue
to display much firmness, very few of them exhibiting
ior sale more than a small portion of their stocks, al
though in the absence of demand, the supply in mar
ket is every day increasing. The small business which
has been done since our last, his chiefly been for the
Fiench, and other Continental ports, and for the North;
English buyers not having operated beyond a few par
cel* to fill np ships already on the berth. The salts of
the week arnouni to 14,800 bales, of which 8000 bales
were sold during the past three days.

Sugar, Louisiana —Our review of last Wednesday
left the Sugar market with a fair demand at the quoted ; '
prices. The transactions since then have been to a I
moderately fair extent, and prices have ruled about the
same as before, but still the market has not exhibited
any buoyancy of character, owing in a great degree,
we presume, to the rather large slock which has been
offet ing on the Levee. The sales of Wednesday amount- I 1
ed to 700 hhds, on Thursday to 690, and yesterday to ; 1
600—making a total of 1990hhds for the three days, and j '
the rates are as follows, viz: Inferior to Ordinary 4 (

Jilolasses —The demand for Molasses on the Levee. !
has again been quite limited, the sales since our review
of last Wednesday morning, having only averaged
about 4UO bands per day. Owing to these limited
transactions and a gradually augmenting stock, the |
market has shown considerable heaviness, and prices
have further declined fully half a cent, our present quo
tatinns being from 21 J to 25 cents 4F gallon.
