Cotton— Arrived since the 30ih ultimo of Louisiana
and Mississippi 12,570 bales, Tennessee 3260. Mobile
102, Arkansas 17, Texas 41 ; together 15,990 bales.
Cleared in the same time for Havre 1856 bales, Balti
more 152 ; together 2003 bales—making an addition to
stock of 13,932 bales, and leaving on hand, inclusive
«f all on ship-board not cleared on the 3d instant, a
•lock of 67,113 bales.
Our last report left the Cotton market in a very un
settled state, the Caledonia’s advices having been re
ceived in full during the day, which led to some con
siderable sales of round lists, the terms of which were
suppressed, though being generally reported at a de
cline we were induced to make some reduction in our
figures for the lower qualities. On Saturday, how
ever, the market assumed more activity and steadiness,
and fully 6000 bales were disposed of, being the largest
day’s business since the opening of the season, and
prices nearly or quite recovered to their former posi
tion, being assisted somewhat by engagements of
freight for Liverpool at a further slight decline. On
Monday there was again a fair inquiry, but great diffi
culty was encountered in negotiations el exchange,
even at materially reduced rates, and the sales were
about 2500 bales, at steady prices. The same difficul
ty in regard to exchange prevailed yesterday, beside*
which freighters to Liverpool were asking rather fuller
rates again, and these circumstances combined to re
sirict transactions to about 1500 bales. The sales of
the tfaiee days sum up 10.000 bales, and nolwilhstand
mg a material increase in the receipts, factors hive
maintained a good degree of firmness, recovering the
momentary depression, and leaving price* nearly the
same as they were prior to the arrival of the Caledo
nia’* advices. as will be seen by our amended quota
lions. Fine Cottons, particularly, are very fully main
tained, as the recent receipts are said to fall off mate
nally in quality, owing to the leafy particles with
which the fibre is intermingled. The total receipts at
this port since the Ist September are 87,444 bales,
against 157.051 bales at same time last year; and the
falling off in the receipts at all the ports, up to the
latest dates, as compared with last year, is 110,239 bales
In the total exports fiom the United States to foreign
countries, as compared with the same dales la*: rsai,
there is> a decrease of 63,455 bales toGieal Britain, and
7U83 to France, while to other foreign ports there is an
increase •! 36J4 bales. We note the principal pur
chases have been lor England and France, with some
parcels for Spain and the North.

BO- We have taken from N. Orleans the amounts }
received from Mobile and Flcrida—and from Mobile
the receipts from Florida.
Sugur . Louisiana— The arrival of numerous steam
boats from the upper country has caused an improved
demand to be expe: lenced for Sugar on the Levee, and
nearly all that has arrived since our last report has
been sold from first hands, principally for the West,
though speculators have taken a portion for resale on
the platform, and prices have further improved. We
now quote for Inferior to Common 5$ Cd) 6, Fair 6$ fed
6s, Prime 6| (d) 7 cents lb. These rales are for new
crop, the market being bare of old. Some few sales,
in lots of 30 toSOhhds, have been made on plantation,
at 5 fd) 5$ cents, generally to dealers in the city.
Molasses— There has not been much activity in the
demand for this article, and a material increase in the
receipts has caused prices to give way. The rates on j
Saturday and Monday were generally 26$ Cd) 27 cents, 1
bat yesterday lots were offering at 26 fd) 26$ cents per
gallon in go od barrels from the Levee, without finding !
purchasers to much extent, and a rather large and in
creasing stock. We are advised of two sales on plan
tation. amounting to aooul 28,000 gallons, at 16 cents
per gallon.
flour —The Ficur market has remained in a very de
pressed state since our review of Saturday last, and
the downward tendency of prices has been increased
by a succession oi unusually heavy receipts. Buyers
for export have declined to come up to their offers of
last week, and holders to effect sales have been obliged
to submit to a considerable decline from the rates then
current. The sales of the three day* reach 7.0C3 bbls
including the following large sales yesterday: 1300 bbls
Illinois not inspected at £4 75, 2000 bbls superfine Illi
nois, part from fiatboat, ih three lots, at £5, and 250 do
choice St. Louis at £5 50 bbl.
Bacon— The Bacon market has remained in the same
depressed state noticed in cur previous review, and
we are advised ef only very inconsiderable sales at 5$ J
(d) 5$ for prime Sides, and 3$ fd) 3$ for .Shoulders. There j
is but little demand lor Hams, which sell at 4$ (a) 6 for !
bare, and 6 1® 8 cents lb for canvassed and extra
sugar cured.
Lard —Since our lust some considerable arrivals have ’
taken place, and prices are not as firmly maintained. |
The pimcipa! sales to our knowledge are from Levee,
as follows—7s7 kegs at 6},9i bbls, in two lots, at 7, and j
215 do at 71 cents ctf* lb, the two last for the Havana
market.
Bagging and Bale Rojre— The considerable sales of j
Bagging mentioned in our previous reviews have had
no apparent effect on prices, and we only learn af li
mited transactions since our last at our former range
of figures, 8® S$ cents & yard. We have observed but
one considerable sale o! Rope, which occurred yester- j
day, 400 coils, at 4 cents ty lb on short time. We quota {
-4® 3$ cents for inferior and ordinary, and 4 (at 4| cts
-Jk' lb for the best brands,
‘ Whiskey —The Whiskey market has remained ex
ceedingly dnll, and we are apprised of no sales, except 1
in a limited way, at 20 ®2l cts gallon for Rectified,
at which the market closed very heavily yesterday.
Corn —Notwithstanding the very considerable arri
vals cf Corn for several days past holders have been
enabled, from the existence of a brisk export demand,
to dispose of nearly all the lots received, embracing
some 50,C00 bushels, at prices ranging principally from
60 t 075 cents bushel, though only two or thiee par
cel* of prime while and yeiiow, in fine shipping order,
have commanded the highest rate, while lots of infe
rior in ordinary bags, have been sold below our lowest
figure.
Exchanges ince our last report, our exchange mar
ket has continued dull and drooping. Sterling bill*
are offered at 6$ to 7$ cen: prem., with but few
takers. Francs are also neglected and the best signs
tures could barely obtain better than 5f.40. Bills on
New York are selling at a range from If to 2 & cent
discount for 60 days ; Beston 60 days l£ cent disc.
Baltimore and Philadelphia 60 days 2 ctff cent discount.
Freights— The arrivals from sea have been very nu
merous since our last report, and the rates tuither gave
■way on Saturday, when two ships were taken for Li
verpool at fd for Cotton. This rate has been froely
oftered since, but we have not heard of its being ac
cepted, shipmasters generally asking 7-16 d. The last
rale paid to Havre was f cent, but we understand that
shippers now only offer | cent. Coastwise Freights
continue extremely dnll, at still lower rates.
Ravannah, November 7.
■Cotton —Arrived since the 30th ult. 8,756 bales Up

ings on the river, and 19 by wagons,) and 25 bales <Stea

« r ?^ l>land was moderate on Friday and
anrf“ ° n Mond »L the «-e was more looking about,
and as holders seemed disposed to submit to some con
cession on their asking prices, the transactions were
o a lair extent. On Tuesday the demand was quite
animated, the sales during the day amounting to up
wards ot 2500 bales, at very irregular prices, and at a
( ecf “£ of * a * Wednesday there was lev* do
ing; Hmrsday being Thanksgiving day, nothing was
done, and yesterday, owing to inclement weather, the
sales were very moderate. The market closes quietly

New f ork and New Jersey—Great Whig

The election results siowmost conclusively that
in both of these Slates Whig principles have sig

Oui latest dates from New York are to 9 o’clock

Neff York Election-Reported Arrival of

We received last night at nine o’clock the
following despatch from our New York corres
responclent, which gives us the very latest intel
ligence from that City and State ;
New York, Nov, 3, 9 o’clock, P. M.
it is reported and believed in the city that the
steamer Britannia has arrived at Boston, and
that her news has been privately expressed to
the city. The consequence is that all business
is checked—so that speculators take nothing by
this movement.
We have heard from two-thirds of the Slate,
and Young has 11,000 majority! Think of
that!
We have TWENTY-TWO Whigs in Con
gress sure, and may have TWENTY-FOUR!!
It is not ceitain that Phoenix and Monroe
are not elected in the city districts. The report
now is that the official vote gives 4 against
Phoenix and 2 against Monroe.
Of the 8 Senators elected this year, 5 are
Whigs and 3 Locolocos.
There is a very handsome majority in the
lower House, andthe oint ballot will probably
be Whig.
This is, indeed, glory enough for one day—
nay, for a year.
