CHARLESTON, Dec. 22. — Cotton.-- Yesterday j
was another inactive day for the Upland market. — j
There were but very few buyers out —the sales
amounting to 173 bales, at from 7f a Sets., and prices
leaning rather in favor of buyers.
Rice. —Prices firm, but as there was but little in
the market, the transactions did not amount to over
200 bbls.
Corn. —600 bushels, in bags, sold at 70 cents per
bushel, bags included.
NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 16, P. M. — Cotton. —
This morning’s mail brought the Telegraphic ac
counts of the Britannia’s advices, which as regards
Cotton, were as usually unsatisfactory. In our mar
ket there has been a fair demand and 3,500 bales
iiave changed hands at about Jc decline.

MOBILE, Dec. I/, P. M.— Cotton —The market
is very' quiet anil the sales of the last three days have
been on a limited scale. On Wednesday about 600
bales changed hands at the rates given in our last
weekly report. Telegraphic dispatches announcing
the arrival of the steamer of the 19tli ultimo, came to
hand on '.hat day, but the letters are still behind, and
we are without the full particulars of the foreign
markets. All parties are awaiting full intelligence,
and by common consent operations are, in a measure,
suspended. The few sales made have been chiefly
tor the French market, with a portion on Spanish ac
count. We quote as follows: fair 7} a7£ cents;
middling lair 7 ; middling 64 a 6f ; ordinary 6 cents.
Exchange —There continues to be a good demand
for sight checks on the Eastern cities, but the out
door supply is very limited. The principal business
is done by'lhe Bank of Mobile, which is checking at
i per cent, premium. Time bills are still neglected,
la sterling the transactions continue light, but in
French exchange there has been rather more doing,
without however any change in rates.
Freights.— We hear of one engagement in foreign

commenced loading for Havre at |o. Coastwise a brig
has been placed on the berth for New Y ork at 4c.
