AUGUSTA MARKET.
Thursday, P. M.
COTTON.—The market to-day has exhibited
considerable activity and prices bave advanced * a
f cent above the rates current prior to the arrival of
the steamer. Wc quote Fair 10* cents.
SAVANNAH, Dec. 19— Cotton. —Arrived since
the 12th inst., 11,897 bales Uplands and 163 Sea Is
lands. Cleared in tho same time 11,929 bales Up
lands and 139 Sea Islands, leaving on hand including
all on ship board not cleared, a stock of 43,665 bales
Upland and 1115 Sea Islands at same time last year.
At the close of our last weekly review the market
was drooping under the effect of the Europa’s tele
graphic accounts. On Wednesday it opened with a
better demand, as holders bad yielded a fraction, and
sales went up to 1900 bales. On Thursday 1378
bales were disposed of. On Friday there was con
siderable demand, and transactions amounted to 2200
bales, at 1-16 to *c. advance on some qualities. The
demand slackened on Saturday, and op rations did
not exceed 600 bales. The market on Monday ami
yesterday was firmer and the sales average about
1400 bales, but without change in prices.
T he Hibernia’s accounts were telegraphed yester
day, and exhibited the foreign market in a dull state
at the date of the steamer’s departure, (Dec. 1,) with
sales of the week only 19000 bales, and a farther de
cline of *, (fair Uplands and Mobile being quoted at
6*d., and fair Orleans at 6|d.) The steamer’s news
reached us at 100 late an hour to ascertain its effect on
our market. We report aggregate sales of 8,896
bales for the week, in the following or.ter j 12 at 9 ;
259 at 9* ; 12 at 9 5-16 ; 64 at 9j ; 458 at 9* ; 490

set down as a little easier. Transactions since our

MACON, Dec. 19. Cotton. —During the past
week our market has been quiet. The sales made
were from 8* to 9* cents—a choice lot sold at 9* cts.
The unfavorable weather has caused light receipts,
and the absence of the Hibernia’s accounts from Liv

buyers and sellers out of the market.
