DR. SWAYNE’S
Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry J
The greatest Medicine in the known World
Os all the cures that have ever been recorded, we
may safely say the annais of medicine cannot furnish
one to surpass this, which now stands as a living proof
of the curabdity of Consumption, even when hie had
qeen despaired of.
Da. Swayne—Dear Sir: For the good of the pub
c, I eel myself in duty bound to testify to the great
cure which your Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry
performed on me. For my part, 1 feel as if every
body ought to know it. 1 was afflicted with a violent
cough, spitting of blood, night sweats, hoarsenessand
sound of the voice indicating an alarming state of dis
ease ; uiy appetite was gone, and my strength had so
far failed me, that my friends and physician were per
suaded I could not survive many days. My sister,
who was my anxious care taker, made inquiry where
she would be likely to procure mast certain relief. —
Sire was told that if Dr. Swayoe’s Compound Syrup j
of Wild Cherry failed in the cure, my life was then
hopeless. Y our medicine was immediately procured,
and the first bot ie gave relief, and by the time I had
commenced the sixth bottle n>y cough left me, and
my sirength much improved. In short, it has made j
a perfect cure of me; and I am at present as hearty
a man as I wish, ami have good reason to believe that
the use of your medicine has saved me from a pre
ma ure grave. I shall be pleased to give any infor
mation respecting my case.
Yours with respect, Isaac Morgan Reeves.
No. 38 Chester-st , between Race and Vine, Phila.
BEWARE OF IMPOSITION 1
'There is but one genuine preparation of II ild
Cherry, that is DR. S H i YNE'S —all others, by
a i ltie inquiry in the quliters where they originate, ;
will be found to be fictitious and counterfeit. The .
great and increasing demand for the original article,
has induced a host of unprincipled men to pul forth
spurious mixtures, and to give currency to their nos
trums, attach the name of Wild Cherry, thinking to
borrow a name from that already- established. As
you value your lives, beware of them. Some are >
called u Balsams, Cherry Pectoral, Wild Cherry I
and Tar. Wine of Wild Chei ry, Wild Cherry Pdis, i
Sarsaparilla and Wild Cherry Bitter-, ” and a host j
Ot others who, in some way. attach the name of Wild j
Cherry. No one ever thought of using this name for j
an article of their own belonging to one ot the great- j
est temedies ever discovered for the human family.
That remedy is Dr. Strayne’s Compound Syrup
of Wild Cherry, the original and only genuine Re
member, it is put up in square bottles, covered with
a beautiful wrapper, (steel engraving) with the por
trait of Dr. Swayne thereon, also his signature.
Great to Mothers ami Children.
DR- 5> VAi NE'S VER MIFUGE. There is no ;
remedy tot destruction and expulsion of worms •
equal to this. One great objection to all other leme- j
dies is that they are so nauseous that children cannot
be made to take sufficient to do them much ifany j
benefit. This remedy is remarkably pleasant to the
taste. Should there be no worms, the system will be
greatly improved by its use. it is also a great rem- j
edy for dyspepsia, sour stomach, Rc. Remember, it j
is now put up in square bottles, with the portrait of |
Dr. Swayne on eacb side, without which none io i
genuine.
CLEANSE AND PURIFY.
Dr. Swayne’s Sarsaparilla and Extract Tar Pills
are a mild and gentle purgative, unsurpassed by any
medicine for removing the bile, cleansing the stomach,
and effectually purifying the blood.
The above valuable Medicines are prepared only
by DR. SWAYNE, N. W, corner ot Eighth and |
Race sts., Philadelphia, to whom ail orders should be |
addressed.

ETHERIaL SYRUP OP TAR. a certain cure
for Coughs, Colds, Asthma, Night Sweats , Spitting
of Blood, Bronchitis, Pain in the Side and Breast ,
Sore Throat. Influenza , and all diseases of the
Chest and Bungs, which so oiten lead to
CON SUM PTIO N .
This preparation is a combination of simple remedies,
very palatable, perfectly safe and speedy in its
effects, affording such relief by the first
dose as to satisfy those suffering, that it
is only necessary to continue its
use to perfect a cure. This ar
ticle is prepared by a Ger
man Chemist, from
an old and val
uable < jer
man
recipe; it has been used with great
success by a large portion of
the Medical Faculty,
and is highly ap
proved bv them.
To public speakers the Compound Syrup of Tar
is invaluable, rendering the voice clear and strong.
No remedy has ever been offered to the public before
which has effected so many cures and had so exten
sive a sale ; hundreds of certificates could be procured
if it was thought necessary, of its having effected
some of the most wonderful cures on record, but the
proprietor intends to have it se'l upon its own merits.
Be sure and inquire for Dr W. Hufeland's Com
pound Syrup of Tar, a< there are preparations bear
ing a similar name, which may be palmed off as Dr.
Hufeland’s. Price 50cents per Bottle.

On the first ol January, 1850, the first number of
the Eighth Volume of the SOU THERN CULTI
- will bo issued. In sending forth another
Prospectus, it is deemed unnecessary to make any
new promises. If seven years of continued, unflag
ging, earnest effort to improve and advance the Agri
culture of the South have not sufficiently established
the character of the work, nothing that can be said on
this occasion will contribute to such a result. The
Publisher desires that his future efforts in that great
and noble cause shall be judged by bis past. It is
Ins purpose 10 make the Cultivator equal, in every
respect, to what it is now ; what the planters of the
South want —a medium for the communication of the
thoughts and opinions of practical men, that they may
successlully teach each other whatever is important to
their interests and their prolession.
Planters of the South! —the future destiny' of the
Southern Cultivator is committed to your keeping
and cure. You, and you alone, can sustain it, and
as it is exclusively devoted to your interests, your aid
is confidently invoked. If you deem it worthy u
generous and liberal support, let it not sulfur lor the
want ol that support, if it is of value, it should be
m the hands of every man who boasts the proud vo
cation of tilling the soil ; and the Publisher looks to
bis friends and the friends of the work to aid him in
ext- tiding its circulation.

I he value of this preparation is now widely knowr,

It is approved and highly recommended by Physi

searching preparation from the root that has ever
been employed in medical practice.
The ollowing certificate from Col. Samuel G.
Taylor, a gentleman of high standing and extensive
acquaintance through the Southern States, commends
itself to the attention of all.
New A ork, January 7, 1848.—Messrs. A. B. &
D. Sands; Gentlemen—Having used, and witnessed
the effects of your excellent preparation of Sarsapa
rilla on different person in various parts of the South
ern country, viz : Virginia, Louisiana. Texas and
Mexico, I feel much pleasure in stating the high
opinion entertained of its great medicinal value. In
my own case it acted almost like a charm, removing
speedily the enervated state of the system, and exci
ting in the most agreeable manner, a tonic and in
vigorating influence.
Your Sarsaparilla is highly approved and exten
sively used by the United States army m Mexico, and
my cousin, Gen. Zachary Taylor, has for the past
five years been in the habit of using it, and recom
mends the same ; he and myself adopted the article
at the same time , and it is now considered an almost
indispensitle requisite in the Army in conclusion
1 would say, that the better it is known the more
highly it will be prized, and I mist that its health
restoiing virtues will make it generally known,
throughout the length and breadth of our widely ex
tended country. Yours very respectfully,
S. G. TAYLOR, U. S. Consul to N. Grenada.
The following is only another link in the great
chain of testimony to its merits. Let the afflicted
read and be convinced. What it has done it wifi tlo
again.
Elizabethtown, N. J., May 15, 1846. —A. B. &
D. Sands: Gentlemen—Having been cured of a se
vere scrofulous disease by the use of your celebrated,
and to me invaluable Sarsaparilla, t feel it to be an in
cumbent duty which I owe to my suffering fellow
beings to testify to the means which restored me to
health, under the blessing® of Providence, after all
other remedies failed. The first bottle of your Sar
saparilla relieved me of all the distressing symptoms,
and did more good than all the medicine I bad taken
for years before. A continuation of your Sarsaparil
la, in combination with vour Salt Rheum Remedy
applied externally, effectually removed all the disease,
restored me to health, and I am now able to attend to
my business.
1 would say to ail, and particularly to my German
countrymen, if you are suffering’ under scrofula or
any disease similar to what I have been, use the
medicine that has been tred, proved and acknowledg
ed to be all that is required to bring health to the de
bilitated frame. Yours, sincerely,
FREDERICK DICKEL, Cabinet Maker.
Sands’ Sarsaparilla.—lt has ever been a prime
article of our medicinal creed, to recommend no ad
vertised medicines, fi r we are opposed to them con
scientiously a> d professionally, but ve fed bound to
deviate from this rule, and recommend to the suffer
ing the article at the head of this notice. The grea
medicinal viitues of Sarsaparilla, are well known
and appreciated by physicians, but the uncertainty of
the strength of the different preparations of the root,
some being almost inert, has caused the medicine it
self to fall into disrepute. The Messrs. Sands, it
would seem, have succeeded in obtaining a powerful
and uniform preparation of it. AA e have seen an
abundance of testimonials to it.- efficacy from the high
est authority, and we recommend it with pleasure.
Southern Whig.
The following interesting case is presented, and the
reader invited to its careful perusal. Comment on
such eviif- nee is unnecessary.
New York, April 26, 1847.—Messrs. Sands; Gen
tlemen— Having long been afflicted with general de
bility, weakness, loss of appetite, Arc., receiving no
benefit from the various remedies prescribed, 1 con
cluded about three mouths since to make use of your
"arsapanlia. 1 now have the pleasure of informing
you that its etfecis have been attended with the hap
piest results in restoring my health, and I am induced
to add my testimony to the many others you already
possess, and to those desiring further information, I
will personally give the particulars of my case, and
the effects of this invaluable medicine, by calling at
235 Bowery, New York. Yours respectfully,
JANET McINTOSH.
Messrs. Sands: A member of my fa raily has ta
ken your valuable Sarsaparilla for a severe scrofulous
affection. &c., with the most beneficial effect result
ing from its use. It gives me very great pleasure to
record my testimony in behalf ot n» vimie and effi
cacy, hoping that others may be influenced to make a
trial of it. JOHN GRIGG.
