AUGUSTA MARKET.
Friday, P. M.
COTTON. —We have had an animated market
10-day, and sales of 1200 to 1500 bales have been
made at very full and advancing prices. W r e quote
Fair to good Fair 10J a 10*c,
CHARLESTON. Dec. 21, Cotton. —The Cot
ton market has been well attended during the w r eek
under review, and the aggregate amount of sales have
far exceeded those of any corresponding period for
some time back. When we closed our inquiries,
preparatory to the publication of our report of the 14th
inst., the market was in quite an unsettled state, so
much so, indeed, that we found it impc'siblo, at the
time to arrange a list of quotations ; the opinion of the
trade, however, seemed to settle on 10* a lo*c. ae
the current rates for the Fair and Fully Fair grades.
There was an active demand for the article in the
eariy part of the present week, the transactions or
Friday reached 2600 bales, and on Saturday they
extended to 3300 bales. Prices during these tvvc
days were more regular than they had been just prioi
to the date of our last issue; and the operations ofthe
latter day were even marked by a decided stringency
in prices; and such was also the case throughout
Monday ; on Tuesday, however, the market received
a momentary check, as the arrival of the steamer
Hibernia was announced about noon on that day,
which was soon followed by the receipt of a synopsis
of the cotton accounts brought out by her.
Although these advices were unfavorable they havi
exercised no influence whatever on our market ; 01
the contrary, prices soon became even more strinuen
than formerly, and the week closed with a decider
upward tendency in prices, amounting on some grade:
to an * cent improvement. The transactions 3 sinci
our last reach 15,000 bales, and the receipts in tin
same time comprise 16,377 bales. The sales were a;
follows ; 5 bales at 9* : 20 at 9$ ; 133 at 9$ ; 510 n
9|; 50 at 9 11-16; 2768 at 9| ; 170 at 9 13-16; 80(
at 9i; 2173 at 10; 355 at 101-16; 1390 at 10* ; 7t
at 10 3-16; 4160 at 10* ; 2227 at 10g ; 92 at 10*
and 24 at lUf. The subjoined quotations will crjve e
lair index of the state ofthe market at the close o
business, viz : ordinary to good ordinary 9* to 9f
middling to good middling 9g to 10* ; middling fail
10* ; fair and fully fair 10* at 10*c., and good fail
and choice—. There has been some little inquiry
for Long cotton during the week, and upwards o
200 bales have been sold at prices ranging from 2t
to 35c., as in quality.

The uniform success wliich has attended the use
of this preparation—its salutary effect—its power to
relieve and cure affections of the Lungs, have gained
for it a celebrity equalled by no other medicine. We
q offer it to the afflicted with entire confidence in its
■- virtues, and the full belief that it will subdue and
d remove the severest attacks of disease upon the
Throat and Lungs. These results, as they become
j publicly known, very naturally attract the attention
o of medical men and philanthropists everywhere.
> What is their opinion of Cherry Pectoral , may be
seen in the following:
=. VALENTINE MOTT, M. D.,
it Prof. Surgery Med. College, New York , says:
is “ It gives me pleasure to certify the value and effl
!- cacy of Ayer’s CHERRY PECTORAL, which I
- consider peculiarly adapted to cure diseases of the
Throat and Lungs.”
d THE RT. REV. LORD BISHOP FIELD
t writes in a letter to his friend, who was fast sinking
r under an affection of the Lungs:—“ Try the CHER
RY PECTORAL, and if any medicine can give you
t relief, with the blessing of God, that will.”
s CHIEF JUSTICE EUSTIS,
’ of Louisiana, writes “ That a young daughter of his
1 was cured of several severe attacks of Croup by
' the ‘CHERRY PECTORAL.’”
p ASTHMA AND BRONCHITIS.
r Fhe Canadian Journal of Medical Science
r states, “ That Asthma and Bronchitis, so prevalent in
e this inclement climate, has yielded with surprising
, rapidity to Ayer’s CHERRY PECTORAL, and vve
I cannot too strongly recommend this skillful prepara
tion to the Profession and public generally.”
