The uniform success which has attended the use
of this preparation-—its salutary effect—its power to
relieve and cure affections of the Lungs, have gained
for it a celebrity equalled by no other medicine. We
offer it to the afflicted with entire confidence in its
virtues, and the full belief that it will subdue and
remove the severest attacks of disease upon the
Throat and Lungs. These results, as they become
publicly known, very naturally attract the attention
of medical men and philanthropists everywhere.
What is their opinion of Cherry Pectoral, may be
seen in the following; —
VALENTINE MOTT, M. D.,
Prof. Surgery Med. College, New York, says: —
It gives me pleasure to certify the value and effi
cacy of Ayer’s CHERRY PECTORAL, which I
consider peculiarly adapted to cure diseases of the
Throat and Lungs.”
THE RT. REV. LORD BISHOP FIELD
writes in a letter to his friend, who was fast sinking
under an affection of the Lungs:—“ Try the CHER
RY PECTORAL, and if any medicine can give you
relief, with the blessing of God, that will.”
CHIEF JUSTICE EUSTIS,
of Louisiana, writes “ That a young daughter of his
was cured of several severe attacks of Croup by
the ‘CHERRY PECTORAL.’”
ASTHMA AND BRONCHITIS.
The Canadian Journal of Medical Science
states, “ That Asthma and Bronchitis, so prevalent in
this inclement climate, has yielded with surprising
rapidity to Ayer’s CHERRY PECTORAL, and we
cannot to) strongly recommend this skillful prepara
tion to the Profession and public generally.”
} LET THE RELIEVED SUFFERER SPEAK FOR HIMSELF :
Harttord, Jan 26, 1847.
Dr. J. C. Ayer —Dear Sir:—Having been rescued
from a painful and dangerous disease by your medi
cine, gratitude prompts me to send you this acknow
ledgment, not only in justice to you, but for the in
formation of others in like affliction.
A slight cold upon the lungs, neglected at first,
became so severe that spitting of blood, a violent
cough and profuse night sweats followed and fastened
upon me. I became emaciated, could not sleep, was
distressed by my cough, and a pain through ray
chest, and in short had all the alarming symptoms
of quick consumption. No medicine seemed at all to
reach my case, until I providentially tried your
CHERRY PECTORAL, which soon relieved and
now has cured me. Yours with respect,
E. A. STEWART.
Albany, N. Y., April 17, 1849.
Dr. Ayer, Lowell—Dear Sir 1 have for years
been afflicted with Asthma in the worst form ; so that
I have been obliged to sleep in my chair for a larger
part of the time, being unable to breathe on my bed.
I had tried a great many medicines to no purpose,
until my Physician prescribed, as an experiment,
your CHERRY PECTORAL.
At first it seemed to make me worse, but in less
than a week 1 began to evperlenc.e the most gratify
ing relief from its use ; and now, in four weeks the
disease is entirely removed. I can sleep on my bed
with comfort, and enjoy a state of health which I had
never expected to enjoy.

CHRONICLE & SENTINEL
POETRY AND MISCELLANY*
liOOD-BYE.
Farewell! farewell! is often heard
Prom lips of those whi part; £
’Tis a whispered tone —’tis a gentle word, S
But springs not from the heart.
It may serve for the lover’s closing lay,
To be sung ’neath a summer sky ;
But give to me the lips that say
The honest words— “Good-Byk !”
Adieu ! adieu S may greet the ear,
In the guise of courtly speech :
But when we leave the kind and dear,
’Tis not the soul would teach.
Whene’er we clasp the hands of those
We would have forever nigh ;
The flame of friendship bursts.and glows
In the warm, frank words—“Good-Bye 1*
The mother sending forth her child
To meet the cares and strife,
Breathes through her tears, berjdoubts and fears
For the loved one’s future life.
No cold “ adieu,” no ** farewell !” lives
Within her closing -tigh ;
But the deepest sob of anguish gives—
‘‘ God bless thee, boy I Good Bye !”
Go watch the pale and dying one
When the glance has lost it beam —
W r hen the brow is cold as the marble stone
And the world a passing dream :
And the latest pressure ofthe hand,
The look ofthe closing eye,
Yield what the heart must understand,
A long—a last “ Good-Bye !”
Frederika Bremer. —This lady, who is at pre
sent the centre of attraction in the literary cir- $
cles of New York, is thus spoken of by a cor
respondent of the Providence Journal:
“ She is a chatty, pleasant body, and looks
kind and considerate enough to be a pattern
maiden aunt to all litjle children that love gin
gerbread and good stories. She is pronounced
by all who know her well, to be a most truthful,
unassuming, and lovely character. She is one
of those persons whose extreme plainness ere
long grows quite agreeable, and you think
more of her fine and beautiful hand, than of
her ungraceful figure and prominent nose.”
Great yield of Gold! —We saw yesterday
thirty-seven bars of gold from the Booker
Mine in Buckingham, the average weight of
which was 195 pennyweights each. It is val
ued by the proprietor at $6,300, and is the
result of thirty-four days labor, with thirty
hands. As the expenses are rated by him at
twenty dollars per diem, the clear profits of
the 34 days work, are upwards of five thou
sand dollars !—Richmond Whig.

The Boston Transcript of Saturday notices
the death of Mr. Hollis Trayer, a well known
merchant of that city.
Late accounts from St. John’s, N. 8., state
that within a few days, four vessels had cleared
thence for California, with cargoes of sawed
lumberand scantling, shingles, window frames,
doors, and door pieces, lime, bricks, grind

The Delaware Division of the Pensylvania
State Canal has been doing a largely profitable
business during the fiscal year ending the 30th
ult. The amount of tolls collected was $196,-

which, after the payment of annual interest on
the cost of the work, leaves a surplus fund of
$95,134.61. The Canal runs from Eastern to
Bristol, Pa., and is the outlet of the Lehigh
