AUGUSTA MARKET.
Saturday, P. M.— Cotton. —A moderate busi
ness has been done to-day. Prices are firm, but
without change.
Liverpool Market.
Extracts of Letters per Hibernia.
LIVERPOOL, Nov, 30. Cotton. —In the early
part of the month a large business was done by spe
culators, and prices advanced $d per lb. Latterly
the demand has very much fallen off, and the ad
vance is entirely lost. The trade have taken only
70,780 bales in the four weeks,
LIVERPOOL, Nov. 30. —The Cotton market has
again been extremely quiet this week. The sales to
the Trade continue very small, and those to specula
tors are on a much reduced scale. Holders of Ame
rican have shown willingness to meet the small de
mand, and have conceded Jd, and in some instances
during the lat two days $d per lb.
LIVERPOOL, Nov, 30.—The spinners have again
this week shown a strong determination to test the
firmness of holders of cotton, by purchasing as little
as their absolute wants called for. Speculators have
followed tbe example set -them, fearful lest the crop
rom the United States should prove larger than it
has been generally estimated ; which fear, the ad
vices per Hibernia, of the I4th inst., somewhat war
rant. I believe that the trade of Manchester in
Yarns and Goods is not flourishing—a few manufac
turers and Spinners may be carrying on a good busi
ness —some there are who are only just making their
own again, whilst others are losing money. As long
as this is the case there can be no rallying in the price
of the raw material, and every effort will be made to
keep it low. Sea Islands are in moderate request,
and the substitution of Egyptians has begun, since the
ow qualities advanced to their present rates.
HAVRE, Nov. 29.—Our Cotton market remains
very quiet, with a decided downward tendency; we
quote ordinaire Uplands, f 96 a 95; tres ordiaaire,
f93a92; bas 189 a 88. Sold to arrive per Eliza
beth Bruce, 105 bales new crop, at f 95.50, allround,
and 100 bales per Versailles at f 95 for fair. The
transactions of the week have been very limited, not
exceeding 3000 bales. Total sales since Ist inst,,
25,300 bales, against 15,000 bales receipt?, leaving a
stock of about 20,000 bales.
P. S.—The Cotton market closes very dull. There
is a report of a transaction in Upland at f. 93 ; fair is
expected ere long at f 92.50.

merous, but'he rates are firmer, and coastwise rates
have an upward tendency. A Bremen ship was
taken to-day, for Liverpool, at 13 32d. for cotton,

been moderate, the rates are firmer. London a 8
per cent, prem.; Paris 5 a 5 40; New York 60
days If a 2 per cent, dis.; do sight J a.s per ct. dis.
MOBILE, Dec. 18, P. M.— Cotton. —The market
continues to be marked by a considerable degree of
dullness, and the sales are so trifling as scarcely to
merit notice. To-day about 800 bales were sold, the
market closing quiet and inclining in favor of buyers.
We quote middling at 9J a 10c. per lb.
