INTERESTING TO COTTON PLANTERS.
O R. PAR Kill RfcT’S Patent Cotton Seed CLEAN
► ING MACHINE, constructed without Saws or Ribs.
The Inventor of this Machine now has the pleasure of an
swering the numerous inquiries from Cotton Planters, res
pecting the performances and results of this Gin. It has
been t'ully tested by cleaning the entire crop of a large
planter near Columbia, S. C., (a certificate from whom is
appended,) enhancing the value of the Cotton one and a
half to two cents per lb. over that cleaned by any Saw Gin.
This advanced price more than pays for a Machine in one
year's average crop, the cast of it being only $250. It turns
out cqt ally as much or more, than any Saw Gin; is more
simple and durable, perfectly safe to the ginner, inasmuch
as he cannot cut himself ; and the great danger of fire, by
friction, in other Machines is entirely obviated.
Arrangements are completed, to build these Machines
in Augusta, for the State of Georgia ; and Cotton Planters
desirir g them, are respectfully requested to send their or
ders to the subscriber. One of the Gins may be seen in
operation at my Steam Mill. W. H. GOODRICH.
Augusta, April, IS6I. apll)
Copy of a certificate from Col. Wade Hampton, dated at
Millw ood, Nov. 4,1550.
Mr. Parkhurst has been, for some weeks, at my plantation
adapt ng his Cotton Gin, originally intended for Long Cot
ton, to short staple. The experiment has been entirely suc
cessful. He has one Gin in operation, which will prepare
four tales of three hundred and fifty pounds each, per day,
and tl e quality of the cotton is far better than I hare
ever seen. By this process of cleaning cotton, the staple
is uninjured, while all the motes and false seeds are almost
entire y separated from the lint. I deem this discovery of
vast importance to the country, and 1 earnestly hope that
Mr. Parkhurst may be rewarded for it.

' DAILY CHRONICLE i SENTINEL
POKTUV.
gW We find the following splendid “ lick hack,” in the
Washington Christian Statesman:
THOMAS CARLYLE AND THE AMERICANS.
“My friend, brag not of our Ameiican cousins! Their
quantity of cotton, dollars, industry, and resources, I bc-
Leve to be almost unspeakable; bu: I can by no means
worship the like of these. What gnat human soul, what
great thought, what great noble thing that one could wor
ship or legally admire, has yet been produced there? None;
the American cousins have yet done none of these things.”
—Thomas Carlyle's Latter Day Pamphlet, The Present
• 'Time, page 23.
“ We have not done a noble thing!”
(At least so says Cari.ylk,) «
This taunt, to most men’s lips, will bring
The deep sarcastic smile,
W l never sent six gallant snips,
Deep freighted, o’er the main,
To give to Ireland's starring lips
The wealth of Western gram !
“ We never did a noble thing!”
The Pilgrim Fathers trod
No self-denying march to bring
Their children home to Clod.
Ben Franklin—out! poor printer boy!
How did he dare to teach
Man that Jove’s bolts he might destroy,
By power within his reach !
“ We never did a noble thing!”
The noblest thing of all ,
Was cutting loose from England's King,
And his oppressive thrall!
When, Hinging back Ids power and might
Across the stormy sea,
We wrote upon the cliffs, in light,
This Land is truly free !
“ We never did a noble thing!”
lias Fulton lived in vain ?
Shall England’s minstrels never sing
Os Washington again ?
. TIV scorn, ice spurn, your idlejaunt—
For still beneath the sun.
Where’er our flag or race we plant.
There noble deeds are done ! %

COSBY S ANTI-DYSPEPTIC BLITERS.
I)ERUAPB there is nothing more calculated to disgust
the public eye than the innumerable advertisements o
the nostrums that are constantly appearing in tiny public
prints. All are ready to exclaim. Our souls are sick, our
ears are pained with every days re]-oris of ills and speci
fics. This state of the public mind would seem to forbid any
person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis
coveries in medicine to the trial of the public: still motives
of delicacy should not prevent us from making known real
discoveries, which we are confidant will benefit our fellow
men. This latter consideration has prompted the author of
these Bitters to make them known, lb* knows they are
highly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many friends
have given them a thorough trial. Ile was, for many years,
a confirmed dyspeptic—so much so that even his recollec
tion was gone, but by the use of these Bitters he lets been
restored to perfect health. This has been the case with
many of his friends. The proprietor, in sending forth this
advertisement, addresses those who know him. He lias f
been, for many years, a resident of Augusta, but at this
time of Hamburg, S. U.,at which pb-.ee he can, at any time, ’
he consulted about the Bitters. They are good in all cases 1
of diseases of the digestive organs, the symptoms of which
are, indigestion, pain or oppression in the stomach from
food, loss of appetite, flatulency, heart-burn, giddiness in
the head, pain in the side, shortness of breath, lassitude,
general weakness, disturbed sleep, Ac. The composition is
entirely Botanical, and has proved efficacious, where many
celebrated medicines had failed; in support of which he
could give reference to a number of persons, who have
made a trial of it, but deems it unnecessary, as he is willing
to place it on its own merits. All he asks is for those who
are afflicted with dyspepsia to give it a trial."
The above Bitters can be had at O. COSHY’S Hamburg,
S. C., and at Dr. \VM. 11. TUTT’S Drug Store, Broad street,
Augusta. fe‘29
