Macrcady, that have been told, the following, which haa the merit of being perfectly authentic, is am ng those worthy of recording. _ In the same hotel where Mucreudy du ring ilia first engagement in this city lived • gen tleman who enjoyed the tragedian's friendship and intimacy. Mr. 6 hod with hint a son, about four years of ago, * bright intelligent boy. who be came an especial favorite of Mr. M uready. The great actor, frequently r.ftcr delighting a large au ditory with hi* sublime conceptions of Shakea peare or Byron, woo'd with a simple pleasure that did him h- nor, take the little Thaddy on his knee, and in friendly prattle pass n half hour away. Thaddy in cue of these confidential mo ments, expressed a longing desire to go to the theatre and see his elderly friend act. ‘*Yery well,’ said the tragedian, “I'll in-k your father to 't't s yoa go to-morrow night.” Accordingly the request was duly made and granted, and on the night appointed the lather and son made a por tion of one of the most brilliant assemblages that ever gathered within the walls of the St. Charles. The play was‘“King Lear.” Mucrcudy never act ed more beautifully. The frenzy and pathos of the choleric King were faithful v delineated; and in the great storm seme where Lear is exposed to the tury of the tempest, with the lightning playing around ids aged head, the frenzied gesture and sublime pathoe of ti e great actor drew down thunders from the front of the house, which drowned the noise of mimic tempe-t on the stage most effectually. Soon the following day, be took the first opportunity ill his conversation with hi* young friend to elieft his childish opinions of his acting. “ Oh! it was beautiful, Mr. I ready,” said the boy. “You were pleased with the play then, Thaddy?” said the gratified tragedian. “ Yes, indeed, Mr. Creudv,” answered Thnd* dj “Now, what did you think I was doing, when 1 was in the rain, and when it was thundering and lightning ho much 1” ‘‘ Oh, I felt so sorry Tot you,” said Thaddv.— “Yon did that very well, though, Mr. (Jrenily.” “Ah! when I was throwing my arms about; you know what I did that for?” “ Oh, yes, indeed! and I wanted to help you so much!” Macready was very much affected and gratified with this childish sympathy. “Well, come now*, give mo your opinion. What was I about ? What did you want to assist me in doing? What was I doing out in that stor.u f” “Oh ! I knew very well,” replied Thaddy, warm ing np at the remembrance of the previous night’* performance ; “ You wtre lightning lugs!" —Pic. “Oh, what trials a poor widow lias to go through sighed Mrs. Partington, rocking hersclfin a melan choly way, and holding untasted the moisei of mscaboy between her thumb and finger—“terible trials, und oh! what a hardship to bo executioner to an estate, where enviable people are trying eve ry way to overcome—the widow’s might—where it’s probe it, probe it, probe it, all the time, and the more you probe it, the worse 't seems; the poor widow never gets justice, for if she gets all she don’t get halt enough.
