Carter’s Spanish Mixture was spoken of; he got two bot

was perfectly cured, and has not had a chill or fever since.

CHARLESTON, Oct. 27. — Cotton. —There was a regu
lar an«l steady demand for this article during the previ

transactions showed rochange; but as it progressed, the
supply, particularly of the better grades, provedinade

the current week sustained these quotations- there was
however, a decided improvement in the demand on Mon
day, and at the close of business on that day prices mani
fested an improving tendency, and such was also the posi

ad vantage of the very depressed state of the Freight mar

mind, believed it to be a fair opportunity to advanc their
rates, and succeeded occasionally in obtaining an advance
of one eighth cent. This stand on the part or holders at
ones checked the demand, and the market during the last
two days has been quiet, but closed at very full rates The
quota-ions we offer will give a fair index of the state of
the market at the close of business yesterday. The re

ever, were made within the range of 4 18-16 © per

Corn—' There is a fair supply of the old crop yet on the
market. The receipts since our last comprise 2,000 bush

—amounting as they do to some 60U0 bales. Prices opened
at $1.25, and the market closed yesterday at $1 per 100
lbs.—some 1700 bales having brought this price.
Flour —The market throughout the whole of the week
has exhibited a languid and drooping appearance, and
when we closed our enquiries yesterday, prices were about
25c. $ bbl lower than they were this day week. The
bulk ofthe sales have been made at
COO barrels \ irginia have been received since our last,
which are held above our present tigures.

Freight *—A number of vessels have arrived here in the

employment. The curr. at rite to Liverpool is a farthing
for Cotton in square bags. There are now five vessels up
for Havre at J*c. for square bags, but they make very
slow progress in filling up. The current rate to New York

Dr. C. Williams—Dear Sir;—Having given your “Pul

Exchange Brokers and General juind Agents at.
Anthony's Falls, Minnesota. '
THK subscribers offer their services to Southern capi
talist in making investments in YVESTERN LANDS.
Few p .rtions of the country oner such inducements as
Minnesota now presents. YVe can make investments in
Land that will nett forty and sixty per cent per annum.
The immense immigration, the rapid rise of real estate,
and our intimate acquaintance with the country, enable
us to make investments that will neariy or quite double
la value every year for the next ten years. A few hun
dred dollars judiciously invested now, will soon become
thousands. How can money be so safely and profitably
invented ? Such investments ui~. better than Savings
Banks, for they do not fail; better than Life Insurance,
for they require no yearly premium.
Land in the vicinity of new and thriving villages, can
now be bought for three, four and five dollars per acre,
that in ten years will be worth ten limes that amount. A
thousand dollars now invested, without labor, will thus
btcome ten thousand. Many of the fortunes of the North
have been made in this way.
Six years ago neither St. Anthony nor St. Paul’s con
tained a hundred inhabitants ; now one contains 5 or 60C0
and the other 8 or 4000, and united support four daily
and seven weekly papers. YVithin that six years, Real
Estate has advanced, in many instances, a hundred fold.
Their history wili, : t a measure, be the history of many
other towns in Minnesota. Those that have the foresight
to make investments while the land is so cheap, will make
fortunes.
The subscribers are always willing tt give all the infor
mation in their power in tegard to the country. Circulars

The HYDROMAGEN is a valuable discovery for pro
tecting the feet from damp or cold, and therefore a pre
ventative of many Lung diseases, withovt any doctoring
whatever. The Hydromagen is in the form of a sole, and
worn inside the boot or shoe. It 3 medicated character is
a powerful antidote to disease.
PJFor Gentlemen it will be found agreeable, warm, and
healthy, to wear in the coldest or rainiest, weather, -s the
foot cannot become wet if the Hydromagen i 3 inserted.—
Ladies may wear the lightest soled Boots or Shoes in the
most inclement weather with impunity ; while Consump
tion, so prevalent aincng the young of our country, may be
thwarted by their general adoption. They entirely super
sede over-slwes, as the latter cause the feet to perspire in
a very unhealthy manner; and, beside?, are net dange
rous wear to pedestrians in icy weather, like India Rub
bers. While the latter cause the feet to appear extremely
large, the Hydromagen, being a mere thin slice of Cork
prepared, peculiarly placed inside, does not increase the
size of the boot, or cause the foot to appear untidy To
Children they are extremely valuable, as they may en
gage in exercise with comfort and healthy effects. Their
expense is so slight as to scarce need mention; besides,
those who patronize them will find their yearly doctor's
bills much diminished, thereby.
As the Hydromagen is becoming more known, its sale is
increasing to an almost incredible extent. Last year in
London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow,
Leeds, Dublin, Paris, Antwerp, Hamburgh and Berlin, our
sales reached 1,732,450 pairs of Cork Soles. This year the
number will far surpass that.
Ask the Faculty their opinion of their value as a pre
ventative for Ooughs, Colds, Bronchitis, Asthma and Con
sumption.

THE CHEST.
SIR ASTLKY COOPER, BART., M. D., the emi
nent Medical Practitioner, has left a valuable legacy
to the world in his great preventative cf Cornuloptiori, and
unfailing cure for Pulmonary Diseases, without the use of
Medicine. Sir A. C., Bart., invented and advised the use
of the MEDICATED FUR CHEST PROTECTOR, to all
persons of all ages and conditions, as a certain ami a safe
shield against those fearful diseases, Consumption, Bron
chitis, Asthma, Coughs, Colds and other afflictions of the
Lungs, which arise from the exposed state of the chest, ac
cording to fashion , and the continual changes of cur cli
mate.
“ The Protector ” is simply a chemically prepared Fur,
lined with silk end pa ded, which, suspended from the
neck, covers the chest, in so agreeable a manner that, once
worn, it becomes a necessity and a comport.
“ The Protector,” although but recent y introduced into
America is making rapid progress through the U. States,
the Canadas, South America, and the W'est Indies. It ha*
for a lone time been a staple article in England and on the
continent of Europe, while it has grown in many countries
to the position of an article of dress.
To demonstrate these facia enquire of any English resi
dent in your vicinity of his knowledge of the beneficial ef
fects of wearing the Protector, without recourse to doctor
ing ot any kind. The cost of wearing these articles is a
mere trifle, and one will last some years. No one who
values the health of himself or his family will be without
them. The Hospitals in this country are not alone recom
mending them, but rapidly introducing them. Uarcourt,
Brauley A Co., of London, and Manchester, England, were
originally entrusted with the manufacture of the Protec
tors, by the lamented Dr. Cooper, and continue to manu
facture according to his original instructions, and there
fore recommend those who would wear “ The Protectors,”
to see to their being genuine.
