phates and Sulphates of Lime, enables it to restore to

Middling at thcclo.-e of our last report, was valu'd at

became more general, and the early trantac ions were
made upon the ha Is of the above quotations ; as it pro
gressed, however, there was a g ad u ally hardening of
pr.cfs, and the period undtr review may be said to have
closed at an fe advance oa the opeuieg rates. Ths sales
have reached 12,464 tales, which are t y far (lie largest
of any we. k since the opening of the season, and the
receipts in the same time 20 i 59 bales. Among the sales
rep uted were 5 bales of the “Jethro” Cotton, which

oui the week. The m.rket has not only exhibited a
good deal of firmness, hut an advance of a'.out J e has
been r- al red occasionally. The extremes have rang< d
from s3| to $!., but the bulk cf sales were ma le within
the mat gin of #3j cl 3} per hundred.
Corn The receipts continue light, and the stock has
been materially reduced. We quote $1 to @lO5 pet
bushel.
Hau —The receipts siuce our last have been limited
to some 300 bales North Tiver, which were sold at 93c
per 100 tbs. The stock is very ample at present, and
this price may be con- iiered an extreme rate.
Flour —We notice a decided improvement in the de
mand, and prices have a’so rallied. The city trade have
leen the principal buyers, and superfine has been ruu
off iu lots at prices ranging from t J to @64 iu barrels,
principally at @6, ; and sacks have been sold at 3f and
@3l per sack.
Salt —There was an arrival of 4800 sacks siuce our
last, which wore sold at 80c. Small lot 3 command from
83 to 90c as in quantity and quality.
Grocerits —The arrivals since our last embrace 200
bbis. Muscovado Molasses, from the West Indies. The
quality was tart, and 50 bbis. have been sold at 27e per
gallon*. Some 50 bhds. Sweet Mu-scovado were sold
from store at 25c. There have also been received, coast
wise, 117 bbis. and 33 hhds. Porto Rico, and 90 hbds.
Muscovado Sugars. The former bad not been sold
when we closed oar repott. The bu k of the latter tas
been run off in small lots at 71 and 71c. There have
been no transactions in Ccffce. Prices have an ad
vancing tendency.
Exchanges —The transactions in Sterling Bills have
established rather advanced rates. The market, wh:eh
opened at PJ a 9|, closed yesterday at ‘*i ®9J ner cent,
premium. We quote Francs 5 15•«?5 174. Sight Checks
on Northern points have declined to »c premium, and the
market yesterday was reported dull at the reduction.—
Thirty Day Bills were quoted by the Banks at f »fc
discount, and paper having sixty days to run was qu ;ted
at a discount of H df 1 jc.
Freights —A number of vessels are loading for Liver
pool, and ilie current rate for the week was 11 for Cot
ton In square bags. There is a vessel loading for
Havre at s • for Upland. The New York steamers have
been fi ling up with Cotton at 5-16 c. Sailing vessels for
the same port have been receiving freight at 20c per 100,
and 75c per bale for Cotton.
