Baltimore, Md.
HAVING taken the Agency for the sale of this
valuable Fertilizer, we beg leave 1o recommend
it to our planting friends for every variety of Crop. In
presenting this article to your notice, we are authorised
by the beat chemical tests of the country in say .ng. that
it is the highest standard of Suoer-Pho'phate of Lime
known to the country, combining upwards cf two per
cent of Ammonia and particularly adapted to the pro
dartion oi Cotton, *r and Grain of every variety
The Charleston Metcury, of the 30th of November,
says: “ The report of Prof Shepard, of that city, is a i
fuil guarantee for its general use.”
This is the only Suoer-Phosobate ever endorsed by !
the celebrated chemi.t, Dr. BLkell of Baltimore City, 1
to contain, as shown by analysis, FIFTY PER CENT <
more of soluble 81-Phospbate cf Lime tban any other
Buper-Phosphate analysed by him. These are published
facts, to which we invite your attention.
Pamphlets, with certificates, and full directions for

*• My MANIPULATED GUANO having become the
accepted and successful rival oi Peruvian Guano, I
trust 1 shall be pardoned for put ting upon public record
what is so universally known in Baltimore, that I am
. solely and exclusively the originator of this at tide by
theuaerfMachinery.”—fAmerican Faim r 1857.
We sold this valuable Fertilizer lastseason upon well
authenticated reports, received from other States, and,
so far as we ;earn, the experiment baa been eminently
successful. The sales in our State show an increase es
over 500 per cent oa sales ot previous years—an increase
unprecedented in the sale of Fertilizers, which we think
strong evideece of the great value of this Guano, con
taining the elements necessary for the growth of crop
and improvement of land, in rational proportions. It
cannot tail to render satisfaction as long as the article
is kept up to its present standard. Asa guarantee for
: this, we can fully vouch, having ascertained thoroughly
the character and standing of Mr. John Kettleweli, cf
Baltimore, the proprietor of this article, qf which we
have additional assurance by a letter of Hon Howelf
Cobb, In which he says that he is a personal frioud ol
Mr. Ketdeweil, of many years standing; aud that he
can commend him In every respect as a gentleman
worthy of regard and confidence. On Cotton, Coro.
Wheat, Oats, Root Crops, Ac , it has produced great
resuts—increasing the product to a very great extent.
This Mamre is not a manufactured preparation, t able
i to changes from one season to ano Jier ; but, as will be
j perceived f<om the heading of this advertise!? ent, is im*
i ported Qnano of the cho cost k ndr, and has decided ad
i vantages over the Peruvian Guano. First, in price; 21,
■ in containing double the Phosphate of Lime—the ele
ment to make Crop and improve land, with an abun
} dance of Ammonia; and thirdly, the fine and dry condi
tion—making it ready for immediate use. Mr. Kettle
well’s enterprise has be n so successful that many imi
tations are now forced upon the public; some mere
nr xtures of doubtfal Guano, hand and shovel, claiming
j to be Manipu atedGuano ; other Gnaco with but little
Phosphate of Lime, and no A mmonia. And we think it
would be well lor Planters to use proper discrimination.
I Certificates regarding the use of this Guano, from promi
nent planters of our State, cou dbe adaed but we
deem it entirely unnecessary referring to Pamphlets on
band and in circulation for further information, and
letters at our office.
As the harbor of Baltimore is frequently closed by
ice obstructing navigation, it would be well for our
patrons and Planters to tend in their orders at once. We
’ ar ‘ expecting a supply from Baltimore at an eaily day,
and will sell at s£6 per ton for No. 1: 831 per tou for
• No. 2. It is put up in handsome sacks. The mode of
application is very simple—sown broadcast in hill or
drill, in quantity as Peruvian Guano—say from ICO to
300 pounds per acre. The liberally it is applied, the
belter for crop and land, Terms cash, or equivalent.

Dear Sir—l have very great pleasure in writing yon,
: touching the effects of your Super-Phosphate of Lime,
jon our Cotton crep Having tested it aga nst soar other
: preparations, I find the appearance of the plant is most
hope.ul and promising, as regards a large and remuner
ating yield. I feel certain your manure will give from
! one hundred to one hundred and thirty pounds of Cotton
more than any other preparation per acre
It is a remarkable fact that no Rubt is seen in the
| plant where }our manure has been used, while ali
! others show Rust more or less, and this is espocialiy the
) case where Guano has been used.
And last though not lea and, as regards the Planter's
interest I feel certain that Cotton from Super Phos
phate will weigh much heavier than from any other pre
paration ; in this particular, I believe Phosphate are
destined to work the greatest possible revolution in the
Cotton growing States of the South.
The plants look most vigo.-o ia and luxurious, some
being six feet high, and h lding from eighty to one
hundred and ten bolls each stalk.
I am, very truly, H. LOMAS.
