Effects of the Late Frosts cpox Tobacco. —
From all accounts, says the Louisville Journal,
the effects of the frost's of the latter part of last
week upon the tobacco crop have been most dis
astrous, involving the loss, perhaps, of about one
eighth of the crop in the tobacco growing region
of the Southern portion of the State.
BrsisEss Revivino.—For the past few days
there has been an active stir upon our streets aud
the cheerful hum of business now makes glad the
hearts of our enterprising merchants and trades
men. Met every man do what he can for the re
lief of himself and others, and the times will not
be so very hard after all.— Rome Courier, 1 8th.
Another Revolutionary Soldier Goxb. —We
learn that Mr. Thomas Ilames, of Murray coun
ty, died on Tuesday morning last, at the advanc
ed age of 180. He* fought through the revolu
tionary war, and could tell many thrilling inci
dents connected with the first settlers of this
country, having been a resident of the above
county for the last twenty or thirty years. Peace
to the ashes of the old veteran ‘.—Dalton Times,
1 bth.
Homicide in Murfreesboro’, Tbxk.—We regret ]
to learn that a difficulty, growing out of politics, :
occurred yesterday at Murfreesboro’, between
voting Mr. Henderson, son of the editor of tbe
Murfreesboro’ News, and a Mr. Farmer, which i
resulted in the death of the former. Rumor says ‘
Henderson used a pistol, and Farmer a knife.

Louisiana. —A letter from Homer, Claiborne !
Parish, says: —“We will carry old Claiborne for 1
Bell and iJvereit, beyond all doubt. Caddo will j
give a majority for Bell of 200 ; Union, 109; j
Ouachita, 150; Morehouse, 150. In Winn parish j
the vote will be very close. In this District there
are many old Whigs, who withheld their support J
in the last Presidential campaign from Mr. Fill
more. and many Democrats, who then supported
Mr. Buchanan, who are now warm advocates of
the election of our Constitutional Union candi
dates —Bell and Everett.”
Darinq Attempt at Robbery. —We are inform.
eJ by the Apalachicola (Fla.) Times of the 17th, ]
that a bold bat unsuccessful attempt was made ■
on the night of the 12th inst. to rob the Agency of j
the Bank of Columbus, at that place, by blowing !
open the safe with powder. The burglars took j
alarm before they had secured their booty, and j
fled. The agents offer one thousand dollars re
ward for information that will lead to the arrest
and conviction of the parties concerned in the
robbery, and the Mayor offers a reward of S2OO.
Oxand Mas Meeting in McsraEtsßOßO, Tenn.
—We learn from the Nashville Patriot of the 15th,
that the largest gathering of the campaign was
held at Murfreesboro, Rutherford county, Tenn.,
on Wednesday last. It is estimated that there
were twenty thousand people present. The
patriot says the procession was at least a mile in ;
extent, composed of the military, young ladies !
on horseback, representing the biaies and Terri- I
tories, and the citizens on foot, and in carriages j
and on horseback.
The meeting was held in a beautiful grove be- |
longing to Maj. Manet, where the first great Whig
meeting was held in 1544. Three stands were oc- 1
copied by speakers. Stirring and patriotic address- ;
es were made by Hon. Horace Matxabd, General ]
Baeeow, R. Hocstox, Esq., Ac. Didner was then !
served, the tables, upwards of a mile in length, ■
literaly groaning under the weight of the good \
things which had been most bountifully provided. :
After dinner, speeches were made by Col. J. G. j
. Pjcxrrr, and Golladat, the popular elector of
that district. Tbe Patriot learns that there was a
display of fireworks and speaking in tbe evening,
and the greatest enthusiasm was manifest. It
was a great day for Murfreesboro. The article
ft om which we have condensed this statement
says that before this great demonstration Demo
cracy “paifcs its ineffectual fires,” and concludes
thus: *
Assn indication of the devotion of the masses
to John Beil where he is best known, it was all
that his most devoted friends cajfild desire. It
was more, it was an earnest of what the people—
tbe real people, the virtuous honest masses, —
intend to do tor him in November. It puts to
shame the cold, and faint, and weary hearted,
who falter at the first sound of danger, and cheers
the hearts of those who are content to fight on
and win tbe field allotted to them, no matter what
may be the fate of ethers.
In conclusion of this hasty article we propose—
A thousand cheers for glorious old Rutherford,
hsr noble daughters, and gallant sons 1
fbe Union Movement In Georgia.
Mr. B. H. Hiil addressed the citizens of Atlanta,
on tbe evening of the 17th inst., in behalf of our
common country. The speech was a calm review
of the field, and the positions of the several candi
dates- I* was devoid of any partizau appeal, and
was <in effort to conciliate, to unite and harmonize j
tbe several parties of the State and the Bomh upon j
a joint electoral ticket. The proposition was re
ceived with great enthusiasm by one of the largest
meetings we have seen assembled in the city j
during the present canvass
At the conclusion of Mr. Hill s speech, Col. C.
R Hanleiter offered the following resolution, j
which after soma discussion, waa passed almost
without opposition :
Pit tolled by the CUieens of Atlanta eompoting \
■ ultting, That the Executive Committees of
the several parties having Electoral Tickets for j
President and Vice-President, in Georgia, be and j
ihav are hereby respectfully and earnestly re
quested to meet s! an early dav, at some central ,
and convenient point, and form an Electoral
Ticket out of the three Tickets now before the
neon la of Georgi*. to be voted for by our r hole j
j£-*ole irrespective of party; or. if that be found
fm practicable, .hat they pled.e treir candidates,
ain-cessful, to cast the vote of our College for |
that candidate for tbe Presic nc/—whether Bell, !
Breckinridge or Douglas—who may be most like
lV to defeat tbe election of oki common enemy— |
ibraham Lincoln.
We fully endorse the movement, and can see no ,
reason why all parties wiU not acquiesce in it.
The proposition is fair, just and equitable to all.
Neither of the three parties at the South can be
injured by the union, but such is the nature of the |
agreement, if folly consummated, that it will prove j
am ltual benefit. The candidate which is best
enabled to defeat Lincoln will receive the ten votes j
of th State.
Such is tbe fairness of the proposition, it seems
t jjt it must meet the hearty response of
everr msn sincerely desirous to perpetuate the
rrnlOD of Btftt6B.
We appeal to men to lay aside partisan prejudice
and unite in one common effort to thwart
the domination of Black Republican rule. The
£im are more than ominous, the crisis is near at
wi and we call upon the patriots of the aoun
trTto unite, harmonise, and make another effort
ro avert the destruction of the Government —A!

THE undersigned. Agent fr the above Fertiliser, in conse

quiring greater facilities for storage and other accommodation,
nas taken the four store Warehouse a* below, where he will be
able to supply any quantity required, with promptness. He
may be allowed to express his satisfaction in view of the fact
that of the numerous purchase* mails of him bv planter*, gene
rally for the purpose of making comparative tests with other
fertt.'.aers. not one case has come to ius knowledge where our
Fertiliser has not shown a decided superiority. Planters who
have used Mapes’ Phosphate, now make it their sole reliance,
i and are ordering (some of them) a* much as flftv tons, for use
I the next season. This fact speaks for itself. We have discov
i ered a quality, developed in the drouth, which was before unob
j served, viz : its hygromctric power, or capacity, to absorb
moisture fr-m tne a’me-phere. which obviated to a large extent
i tbe late unparalleled drought where it was used, while most
| other fertilisers were not only valueless, but positively injurious
! to the riant. The safety and profit as a money Investment,
arts; rg from the use of Mapes' Phosphate, are now placed be
yorl question, and the experience of the past season, has estah
i lkhed what we have, without hesitation, aiwavg asserted for It,
j Latis the only fertiliser reliable under all circumstance* o!
i so!!, mode of cultivation, and of weather.
The undersigned is also prepared to supoly any description of !

NO. 2 WARREN BLOCK,
Augusta.
There is to be found in this establishment a
greater variety, and a larger Btock of pure and
genuine Natural, Mixed and Manipulated FER
TILIZERS, than in any other South of Baltimore,
and the Planters of Georgia, South Carolina and
Alabama, are requested to call and examine the
stock before buying elsewhere—they will do well
to do so.
The most satisfactory certificates from reliable
Planters in Georgia and South Carolina, are daily
coming in, testifying to the virtue of these Ms
| nures, and will be, after Ist of November, for
warded in pamphlet form to any who may wish to
I see them.
The AMERICAN GUANO, notwithstanding the
unfavorable season, has won a reputation through
out Georgia, Alabama and South* Carolina, (where
I it has been extensively used,) that sets aside all
cavil as to its position among the best Fertilizers
j yet discovered. It stands side by side with Peru
vian.
It is true there have been Borne failures—always
will be—so thtre has been with Stable Manure
and Peruvian, indeed, every kind this season, but
| that does not prove that American Guano will not
pay a large per centage. In almost every case,
where there has been what is called a failure, it
has been owing either to the manner in which it
was applied, tbe cultivation or the quantity used,
j Some put it too far from the seed—some lose half
| by the wind blowing it away—others bv mixing
I it with Stable Manure, or by” using not half enough
j to the acre ; but take it as ft was used, by the fn-
I experienced as well as the experienced’ Planter,
| ana so far as we have bean able to learn the truth,
in nine cases out es ten the Guanoed Cotton, Corn,
Wheat, Oats, Barley, Rye, Turnips, and all Gar
den Vegetables, have* yielded nearly twice as
much as tbe unguauoed land—so it pays even in
the dryest seasons. You make but little this year
—poor crops—but if you had used no Fertilizer,
’ you would have made next to nothing. If the
seasons had continued throughout July and Au
gust as thev did up to the 15th of June, the old
worn-out hills of Georgia and Carolina would
j have groaned under the weight of the most over
whelming crops that were ever gathered. So
; don’t be discouraged, but follow the example of
the Dicksons, Thos. Whaley, T. J. Smith, of Han
cock ; Judge Roberts, of Warren ; Dr. Mims,
1 T. G. Lamar, and the Ranafords, of Edgefield,
S. C.; who return annually to their land from |4
| to $6 worth of Fertilizers per acre, and your suc
; cess will be like theirs, an overwhelming income

manent improvement of your* lands.

COMPOUND remedy in which we have labored to pro
auce the most effectual alterative that can be made, ft L,
a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with
other substances of still greater alterative power as ts afford an
effective antidote for tne dlseas s Sarsaparilla is reputed to
cure. It is believed that such a remedy la wanted by the*
who suffer from Strumous complaints, and teat one which wv
accomplish their cure mu pr ve of Immense service to thU-i
large class of our afflicted feliow-cltUens How completely w .
compound will do it has been proven by experiment on n 1
of the worrt cases to be found of the following complaints :
Scrofula and Scrofulous Complaints, Eruptions and Erupt.

Tbl* compound will be found a great promoter of health,
wben taken in the spring, to expel tne foul hum. re which fes
ter to the blood at this season or the year. By the timely ex
pulsion of them many rankling dfaorcers are nipped In the bud.
Multitudes on, by the aid of this remedy, spare themselves
from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcer u* sore*
through which the system will strive to rid Itself of orrrupt'or.-
It not assisted to do this through the natural channel* of tt. -
body bv an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated Mocd
whenever you find !to impurities bursting through the skin In
pimples, eruption* or sores ; cleanse it when you find it 1* of
structed and sluggish in the veins : cleanse it whenever It 1-.
fouh •nd your feelings will tell you when. Even where au
particular disorder la felt, ppl* enjoy better htaitb, and Uv.

no lasting health. Sooner or later something mux go wroc-.

harsaparfifa has. and oeeerve* tench, the reputation of accom

ceived by preparation* of it, party because the Srug alone L
not al! the virtue that l- claimed for it, but more because mar -,
prepantio . pretending to be concentrated extra~s o it, t
tain but little of the virtue of haraaparilto, or any thing else.
Daring late years tbe public have been misled by large fat
ties, pretending to give a quart of Extra- 1 of Sarsaparilla tor
cue dollar. Most of these have been frauds upon the rick, lor
they cot only contain little. If any. Sarsaparilla but often c
curative properties whatever. Hence, bitter and painful disai -
pointment has followed the use of the various extracts of 8a:
expert fa which flood the market, until the name itself is jut iv
despised, and has bee- me synonymous with imposition and
cheat. Will we call this compound tsarnapariito, and Intend t*
supply such a remedy as shall rescue the name from the load oi
obloquy which rests upon it. And we think we have grout rt
for believing it has virtues w leh are imuistible by the ortUnarv
run of the diseases It U Intended to cure. In order to sect” ■
