and give in a condensed ana succinct form the Kules and Usages

instruction of the members thereof—has long been felt. Such a

that, with the factlitiesat his command, beingan active member
of both orders, he ca do so, and furnish a Temperance Journal

WE call the attention of merchants and others to the ad
vantages offered by the REPORTER as an advertising
medium. Its circulation is between nine hundred and a thou
sand, and is constantly increasing In the western counties of
this State. We would be pleased to receive such patronage in
the way of advertising, as they may think would advance their
interests ; and, therefore, as a guide in determining the amount
of money they may wish to invest in our columns, we insert
our scale of prices, from which we never vary. It is, no doubt,
well known that this section of country contains a very wealthy
population, and it seems that the merchants of Augusta would
doyell to solicit trade la this direction. Give the REPORTER
a trial. The following are our terms :

SOOTHING SYRUP,

which greatly facilitates the process of teething, by softening

SURE TO REGULATE THE BOYVELS.
Depend upon it, mothers, it will give rest to yourselves, and
RELIEF AND HEALTH TO YOUR INFANTS.
We have put up and sold this article for over ten years,
and CAN SAY, IN CONFIDENCE AND TRUTH of it, what
we have neverl ibeen aole to

N&VER HAS WINSLOW’S IT FAILED,
IN A SINGLE INSTANCE,
TO EFFECT A SOOTHING CURE, when
timely used SYRUP. Never did we
know an In- stance of dis

matter “ WHAT WE DO KNOW,” after ten years’experience,
AND PLEDGE OUR REPUTATION FOR THE FULFIL

every instance where the infant is suffering from pain and ex

the syrup is administered.
This valuable preparation is the prescription of one of the
most experienced and skilful Nurses in New England, and has
been used with NEVER FAILING SUCCESS in

It not only relieves the child from pain, but invigorates the

These symptoms, in part, are experienced often by sufferers
with diseases ot tne Bladder, Kidneys, Gravel and Dropsy, and
invariably by the imudiclous or nervous and debilitated. It is a
fact, long since established, that any disease of these organs
affects the mind more than any and all others, and if allowed to
so on—which this medicine invariably removes—soon follows
.oss of Power, Fatuity and Epileptic Fits—in one of which the
patient may expire. Who cun say that these excesses are not
frequently followed by these direful diseases, Insanity and Con
sumption ? The record of the Insane Asylums and the melan
choly deaths by Consumption, bear ample witness to the truth
of these assertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy
exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sullen and
quite destitute —neither mirth nor grief ever visits it. Should*
sound of the voice occur, it is rarely articulate.
“ With woeful measures, wan Despair,
Low, sullen sounds, his grief beguiled.”
Debility is most terrible, aud has brought thousands upon
thousands to untimely graves ; thus blasting the ambition ot
many noble youths. It can be cured by the use of this infallible
remedy.
The mass of voluntary testimony in possession of tne proprie
tor, vouching for its virtues and its curative powers, is immense,
embracing names well known to science and fame. Certificates
of cures, from one month to twenty years’ standing, and ol the
most reliable and respectable character, are open for inspection
from Governors of States, Judges, eminent Physicians, asd dis

AY SitA SARSAPARILLA. ”
V COMPOUND remedy in which we have labored to pro
duce the most effectual alterative that can be made. It is
a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with
other substances ofslill greater alterative power as to afford an
effective antidote for tne disease Sarsaparilla is reputed to
cu.c. It is believed that such a remedy is wanted by those
who suffer from Strumous complaints, and teat one which will
accomplish their cure must nr ve of immense service to this
large class of our afflicted fellow-citizens. How completely this
compound will do it has been proven by experiment on many
of the worst cases to lie found of the following complaints :
Scrofula and Scrofulous Complaints, Eruptions and Eruptive
Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Rb tehee, Tumors, Salt Rheum,
Scald Head, Syphilis and Syphilitic Affections, Mercurial Die
ea.-e. Dropsy, Neuralgia or l ie Douloureux, Debility, Dyspep
sia and Indigestion, Erysipelas, Rose or St. Anthony’s Fire,
and indeed the whole class of complaints arising from Impurity
oft lie Blood.
This con tid will be found a great, promoter of health,
whe.ntakci spring, to expel tne foul humors which fes
ter inthe bin Id s season of the year. By the timely ex
pulsion of then any rankling disorders are nipped In the bud.
Multitudes c n, by the aid of this remedy, spare themselves
from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous sores,
through which the system will strive to rid it Bt-lf of corruptions,
it not assisted to do this through the natural channels of the
body by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out tlie vitiated blood
whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in
pimples, eruptions or sores ; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it whenever it is
foul, and your feelings will tell you when. Even where no
particular disorder is felt, p ople enjoy belter health, and live
longer tor cleansing the blood. Keep the lood healthy, and all
is well; but with this pabulum of life disordered, there can be
no lasting health. Sooner or later something must go wrong,
and the great machinery of lile is disordered or overtlirown.
Sarsaparilla lias, and deserves much, the reputation of accom
plishing these ends. But the world has been egregriously de
ceived by preparations of it, partly lie cause the drug alone lias
not, all ti i virtue that !■ claimed for it, hut more because many
preparations, pretending to he concentrated extracts ot it, con
tain but little ofthe virtue of Sarsaparilla, or any thing else.
During late years the public have been misled by large bot
tles, pn lending to give a quart of Extra t of Sarsaparilla tor
on? dollar. Most of these have been frauds upon the sick, tor
they not only contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla but often no
curative propet ties whatever, lienee, bitter and painful disap
pointment has followed the use of the various extracts of Sar
saparilla which flood the market, until the name itself is justly
despised, and lias become synonymous with imposition arid
cheat. Still we call tills compound Sarsaparilla, aud intend to
supply such a remedy as shall rescue i he name from t lie load of
obloquy which rerts upon it. And we think we have ground
for believing it has virtues w ieh are irresistible by the ordinary
run of thp diseases it is intended to cure. In order to secure
th.eir complete eradication from the system, the remedy should
lie judiciously taken according to directions on the Dottle.

FOR BEAUTIFYING THE HAIR,
mparting to it an unequalled gloss and brilliancy, making it
soft and silky in its texture, and causing it to curl readily.
The great celebrity and the Increasing demand for this une
qualled preparation, convinces the proprietor that one trial is
only necessary t o satisfy a discerning public ofitssupcrinrquaU
tles over any other preparation at present in uso. It cleanses
the head and scalp from dandruff and other cutaneous diseases;
causes the hair to grow luxuriantly, and gives it a rich, soft,
glossy and flexible appearance; and also where the hair is
loosening and thinning, it will give strength and vigor to the
roots, and restore the growth to those parts which Lave become
bald, causing tto yield a fresh covering of hair.
There are hundreds of Ladles and Gentlemen in . < w York
who have had their hair restored by tlre use of the Invigorator,
when all other preparations had failed. L. M. has in las pos
session letters innumerable testifying to the above facts, from
persons of the highest respectability. It will effectually pre
ventthe hair front turning grey until the latest period of life;
aud in case's where the hair has already changed its color, the
use of the Invigorator will certainly restore it to its original
hue, giving it a dark, glossy appearance. Asa perfume for the
toilet and a Hair Restorative, it is peculiarly recommended,
having an agreeable fragrance ; and the great facilities it affords
in dressing tlie hair, winch, when moist with the Invigorator
can be dressed in any required form so as to preserve its plaeo,
whether plain or in curls—hence the great demand for it by the
ladies as a standard toilet article which none ought to he with

I rof Wood: Thee wilt please accept a line to inform thee
that the hair on my head all fell off”over twenty years ago,
caused by a complicated chronic disease, attended with an erup
tion on the head. A continual course of suffering through me
having reduced me to a state of dependence, I have sot been
able to obtain stud for caps, neither have I been able to do
them up in consequence of which my head lias suffered ex

The Amalgamation of Languages. —There is a
growing tendency in this age to appropriate the
most expressive words of other languages, and
after a while to incoroorate them into our own ;
thus the word Cephalic, which is from the Greek,
signifying “ for the head,” is now becoming popu
larized in conqection with Mr. Spalding’s great
Headache remedy, but it will soon be used in a
more general way, and the word Cephalic, will be
come as common as Electrotype and many others
whose distinction as foreign words has been worn
away by common usage until they seem “ native
and to the manor born.”
’ardly Realized.
Hi ’ad ’n ’orrible ’eadachethis hafternoon, hand
. hi stepped into the bapothecaries hand says hi to
the man, “Can you hease me of an'eadache ?”
“ Does it hache ’ard ?” says ’e. “ Hexceedingly,”
says hi, hand upon that ’e* gave me a Cephalic Pill,
hand’pon me’onor it cured me so quick that hi
’ardly realized hi ’ad ’ad an ’eadache.
Headache is the favorite sign by which
nature makes known any deviation whatever from
the natural state of the brain, aud viewed in this
light it may be looked on as a safeguard intended
to give notice of disease which might otherwise
escape attention, till too late to be remedied ; aud
its indications should never be neglected. Head
aches may be classified under two names, viz :
Symptomatic and Idiopathic. Symptomatic Head
ache is exceedingly common and is the precursor
of a great variety of diseases, among which are
Apoplexy, Gout, Rheumatism and all febrile dis
eases. In its nervous form it is sympathetic of
disease of the stomach constituting sick headache .
of hepatic disease constituting bilious headache, of
worms, constipation and other disorders of the
bowels, as well as renal aud uterine affections.
Diseases of the heart are very frequently attended
with Headaches; Anaemia and plethora are also
affections which frequently occasion Headache.
Idiopathic Headache is also very common, beiDg
also usually distinguished by the neme of nervous
headache , sometimes coming on suddenly in a state
of apparently sound health and prostrating at
once the mental and physical energies, and in
other instances it comes on slowly, heralded by
depression of spirits and ascerbity of temper, In
most instances the pain is in the front of the head,
over one or both eyes, and sometimes provoking
vomiting ; under this class may also be named
Neuralgia.
For the treatment of either class of Headache
the Cephalic Pills have been found a sure and safe
remedy, relieving the most acute pains in a few
minutes, and by its subtle power eradicating the
disease of which Headache is the unerring index,
Bridget. —Missus wants you to send her a box
of Cephalic Glue—no, a bottle of Prepared Pills ;
but I’m thinking that’s not just it naither; but
perhaps ye’ll be afther knowing what it is. Ye
see she’s high dead and gone wi'h the Headache,
and wants some more of that same as relaived her
before.
Druggist. —You must mean Spalding’s Cephalic
Pills.
Bridget. —Och ! sure now and you’ve sed it;
here’s the quarther and give me the Pills aud don’t

Constipation or Costiveness.
No one of the “ many ills that flesh is heir to”
is so prevalent, so little understood, and so much
neglected as Costiveness. Often originating in
carelessness or sedentary habits, it is regarded as
a slight disorder of too little consequence to ex
cite anxiety, while in reality it is the precursor
and companion of many of the most fatal anddan
gerous diseases, and unless early eradicated it
will bring the sufferer to an untimely grave.
Among the lighter evils of which Costiveness is
the usual attendant, are Headache, Colic, Rheuma
tism, Foul Breath, Piles, and others ot like na
ture, while a long train of frightful diseases such
as Malignant Fevers, Abscesses, Dysentery, Diarr
hea. Dyspepsia, Apoplexy, Epilepsy, Paralysis,
Hysteria, Hypochondriasis, Melancholy and In
sanity, first uidicate their presence in the system
by this alarming symptom. Not unfrequeutly the
diseases named originate in Constipation, but take
au independent existence unless ihe cause is
eradicated in an early stage. From all these con
siderations it follows that the disorder should re
ceive immediate attention whenever it occurs,
and no person should neglect to get a box of Ce
phalic rills on the first appearance of the com
plaint, as their timely use will expel the insidious
approaches of disease and destroy this dangerous
foe to human life.
A Real Blessing.
Phyticiun. —Well, Mrs. Jones, how is that
Headache ?
Mrs. Jones.— Gone ! Doctor; all gone. The uill
you sent cured me in just twenty minutes, aud I
wish you w’ould send more, so that I can have
them handy.
Physician. —You can get them at any Druggists.
Call tor Cephalic Pills, I find they never fail, and
I recommend them in all cases of Headache.
Mrs. Jones. —l shall send for a box directlv, and
shall tell all my suffering friends, for they ‘are a
real blessing.
Twenty Hilli©xs ©f Dollars Saved.— Mr.
Spalding has sold tw© millions of bottles of his
celebrated Prepared Glue and it is estimated that
each bottle saves at least ten dollars worth of
broken furniture, thus making an aggregate of
twenty millions of dollars re claimed from total
loss by this invaluable invention. Having mnde
his Glue a household word, he now proposes to do
the world still greater service by curing all the
aching heads with his Cephalic Pills, and if they
are as good as his Glue, Headaches will soon van
ish away like snow in July.
