of the United States, agteeably to the direc
tion of an ad of Congrefe, entitled* “ An
Ad providing for the enumeration of the in
habitants of the United States,” according to
the best of my ability * fi The oath or affirma

a just and perfed enumeration description
of all persons resident within the division as

sistant (hall receive at the rate of one dollar
for every hundred and fifty peifons by him
returned, where such persons tefidt in the
Country; and where such persons a
city or town, containing more than five thou
sand persons, such Assistant (hall receive at
the rate of one dollar for every three hundied
persons; but where, from the dispersed situ
ation of the inhabitants in some divisions, one
dollar for every one hundied and fifty persons
(hail be inefficient, the Marlhalf, with the
approbation of the Judges of theilr refpedive
: diftrids, may n»aks Aich further allowance to
the Assistants in such divisions, as (hall be
; deemed an adequate compcufatiou, provided
the fame does not exceed one dollar for every
fifty persons by them returned. The fevetal
