marks is to excite inquiry. Surely, if the

CHARLESTpN, April 3.
Medals of the President of the United
States are now Arising in Philadelphia. The
likeness is said to be very drone and expref*
flve, and executed in a ftyie worthy the at
tention of the citizens of the United States
of America. There are few persons but.may
become peffefled of this medal at a very m,o
derate expcnce, viz. those A ruck upon a (ins
white .metal, resembling silver, one dollar 1
on a fine gold coloured metal, two dollars ;
one of silver, four dollars; and one of gold
in proportion to weight. -Medals,; from the*
carlieft period of time, have been regarded
by every enlightened, peop.ld as the greatest
help to hiftory, and the best method of trauf
mitting to posterity the memories of the he
roes and patriots of the age, and one of the
xnoft honorable compliments a grateful people
can confer upon their favorites.
AUGUST A, May 22. .
From a late Baltimore paper•
-It is a pleating reflection, that, wnilft Ame
rica is enriching herfelf by her exports, (he
at the fame time is feeding flarviug millions
abroad. In commerce, as in politics, how
ever, the grand deftderatem is the happy mein,
neither abundantly much or pinch little. If
the farmer,’ miller add dietchant, it this pe
riod, are peculiarly benefited by the high
price of grain, perhaps the smith, ffioemaker,
labourer, &c. begin to feel the weight of the
not having raised in their
prices. A considerable influx of money can"
be no advantage to the slate, unlels the com
munity at large experience iesfalutaiy eflefts.
It matters not, then, whether we pay one
gulling or one penny for a pound of beef, pro
vided each branch of the great social com-*

does not, ** the jhoe mujl pinch* 1 somewhere,
