fTT' H E county of Richmond is without • .
Court-huui'e sod Goal i and the most \
convenient and legal place tdr ercdiug them
it at the town of Augulla. The funda appro
priated by the date for the putpole are found,
by a just calculation, to be inadequate; and
the Commiffiofiera are compelled to r f elort :
for affuiance to ptivate subscriptions. The
obvious realons in favor of the eftablilhment
they hope, induce a general and effec
tual contribution. Augulla is the center ot
the commerce of the state. Placed at the
heaiTof navigation, it will naturally be the
mart of all the production to the weft of it •
and of course mull be the ware-house of all
the importations to Ms given in exchange.
Thu will tend to eularge the limits of the
town, and to mcreafe its population, and the
value of every lot. Vice and licentioufnefa
will grow with these, unless checked by the
salutary restraints of ihe lawa; and the hold
ing ot Courts and impiifonment of thufe who
dcierve it, in a place crowded with people,
will diffufe t|t examples of justice and pun;lh
ment. Society will be improved and regu
lated ; government will be obeyed and re
‘ fpcCfed i and the commerce between the mer
chant and piantet protected.
> The Commiflionera pledge themselves for
the faithful application of whatever may be
fubferibed. Independent of their being oblig
ed to account with the Superior Court, they
will conltantiy publiih in the Augusta Chronicle
the-accdum ot then expenditures.
terfons desirous of encouraging so ufeful
and necellary a purpose, are requested to call
upon the Cominidioners, by whom fubferip
tions are received.
