fect session ot the Legislature, to them re
ferred, reported in part.

Mr. Speaker,
I am directed by the Senate to inform the
Houle of Repreftntatives, that the Senate
have passed an Ait preferring the time,
manner and places, of holding election# for j
|>erfon» to repreftnt this Hate in the Congref#
of the United States* to which they desire i
the concurrence of this Houft. And he
withdrew.
The order of the day being called for, the
House proceeded to take under their confide
laticn the report# of the committee on pe
titions j and the reports on the petitious of
John Howell, William Kain, W illiam Waith,
Samuel Whitaker, and Owen f ort, beiug
severally read, ,
Rejolved , That a law ought to be passed by
the present General Assembly to give redress
to the petitioners and others having claim#
against the state.
The reports on the petitions of Jolhua In
man, Mess. White and Robiufon, Joseph
Day, and a number of the inhabitant# of
VVilke# county, in the fork of Broad and S
avannah rivers, beibg severally read,
Rejolved, That the said reports and peti
tions do lie on the table.
The petition" of Samuel Stirk, with the
refoiuticn of the Senate, being rea"d,
Rejolved, That this House do not concur
therein
The report of the committee cn the peti
tions of Charies Damaron, and Joseph Watts,
attorney for Alexander M‘lvcr, being read,
is as follow# :
Rejolved , As the opinion of ibis commit
tee, that the petition of Charles Damaron,
praying payment for a balance doe him a# an
invalid, as appears by the late Treasurer’s
certificate, ought to be granted ; and
the committee recommend, that ,his Ex
cellency the Governor do grant an order on
the Treasury for the sum of forty* nine pounds, .
being the balance due him, the fame to be
charged to the General Expenditure.
Gn the petition of Joseph Watts, as at
torney for Alexander M‘lver,
Rejolved , As the epinion of the committee,
that h»# Excellency the Governor be direfied
to grant the petitioner a warrant on the Trea
sury for the sum of *6Bl. 14*. od. x*4, be
ing the sum expressed to be due him by a re
solution of the General Assembly of the ipth
January, 1788, in lieu of a like Trealnry
draft loft by the petitioner, giving bond to
the Treasurer to repay the state, ftiould the
original ever appear for payment, which

tions of Dauiel Howell, Alexander Rose,
David Fifticr, David Rees, as executor of
the efta'e of David Turner, Benjamin Filli
bonrn and Oliver Bowen, being severally

Rejolved , As the opinion cf the committee,
that the prayers of the petitioner# ought not
to be granted.

tion of Thomas Stone, being read, is as fol

Rejolved, As the opinion cf the commit
tee, that the petition of Thomas Stone, pray
ing to be allowed to reliuquiih a tra<*? of land
purchased by him at the laics of coulifcated
property, as he conceives the heirs of Ed
ward Tannatt have a fupeii ir claim to the
fame, ought not to be granted, ## there d'-es
I not appear to have been any legal determina
tion on the right of the fan! property. And
the said report being a ain lead, was agreed
to by the House.
On the petition of Joseph M ck, praying
the General Assembly to confirm certain arti
cles of reparation between timi and his wife,
Charity,
Rejolved , As the opinion of the commit
tee, that the petition of the said Joseph Mock
ought not to be granted. And the fid re
port being again read, was agreed to by the
House.
On the petition of a number of the inha
bitants of the counties of Richmond and
Wilkes, praying th3t Little river may be
opened to William Sons*# mill, for the fiee
passage of fill), and that the future profpetts
of navigation may not be fuffered to be oj
ftrutfed by mill-dams being cretled -croft
the fame;
Rejolved , As the opinion of the commit
tee, that the prayer of the petition is relfon
able; and the committee do recommend,
that a committee be appointed to bring in a
bill for that purpose, which wa6 agreed to.
Ordered , That Mr. Moore, Mr. Talbo*
and Mr. Andrew, do prepare and bring i.i
the said bill.
