And for the more equal affcftment of pro-'
petty, Be it ordained by the authority aforefaid ,
That every perfonor persons holding, owning
or poffieffing property of the description here
in before mentioned, (hall have by him, her
or them, or in the hand* of some agent or
attorney for him, her or them, an attested
descriptive lift of such person’s property lying 1
or usually bethg within the corporate limits
* of the laid town, which lift, attested as afore
said, lhall be given inti) the hands of the said
alfbflors, or some one of them, at such time
or times as may be require"!: And any per
son, or persons as aforefaid, tailing or negleft -
ing to make out or return futh attested dcltrip
tive lift of his, her or their property, or re
futing or failing to (hew or produce such part
thereof for the iofpedion of the said afleflor*
as may be required, such person or persons,
and each arid every of them, for each and
every such ueglett or refufal, (hall forfeit and
pay afura not exceeding ten pounds, to be ap
plied, when recovered, to the purpafes before
mentioned as td other forfeitu es: And the
said afleflortf, or a majority of them, lhall
and may lawfully assess, rate and value the
property of luch defaulter or defaulters,
agreeably to tbfe best information they can ob
tain relative thereto.
And be it further ordained by the authority

And be it further ordained , That the said
affeflbrs, or a majority of them (hall, otfor
before the fifteenth day of September next,
aflefs, rate and valde all property before men
tioned within the limits aforefaid, and (hail
make and return a general digest of the whole
to the Clerk of the Town on or before the firit
day of Odober next - * and they dull be paid
arid allowed for their services and trouble'
twenty (hillings P cr day,- each, while adually
employed in assessing the said property, and
they (hall collectively be allowed the further
sumos five pounds for digeftiag and returning
a general account or affeflment as before di
rected ; to which digest (hall be added, a lift
of all male white persons, over the age of
twenty-one years, within the Corporation,
the affeffraenf of whose property ftiall not ex
ceed twenty-five pounds ; as alto the names
of all free persons of colour, with their ages
as nearly a* can be afeertained.
And bt it further ordained by the authority
afore,aid* That previously to entering on the
duties required by this Ordinance, the said as
sessors so to be appointed (hall fevetully take
and fubferibe an oath or affnmation, before the
Mayor or one of the Aldermen of the laid
town, to the effeft following •
“ I A. B. do solemnly swear or affirm,
« that I* will, to the keft of my judgment,
« equally and impartially aflefs, rate and va
«< i ue all property that (hall come to my know
«• ledge, fubjeft to assessment within the cor
porate limits of Augusta; and othetwife
«« truly and faithfully execute and perform the
“ duties of an assessor for the said town- So
[help me God.”
Provided always and it is hereby declared ,
That the said Mayor and Aldermen do save
and retain unto tbemfelves the power of grant
ing relief in all cases where it may manifeftly
appear the property of any person hath been
difproportionably rated or affetfed.
And be it further ordained by the authority
aforefaid. That this Ordinance (hall be and
continue in force for twelve months, and no
longer.

hats, blue, red and white check 'handker
chiefs, red Ariped blankets, an oldred jacket,
and a new fancy waidcoat. They can answer

with the (mall pox, his arms and (boulders are
much blotched by it,’loves to play on a kind
of flute or pspc, is very attive and lively.
