That the King of Pruifia has ordered the levy

On Thursday last the Freemasons of Bland

niverfiry of St. John; and on Friday thev gave
an elegant Ball at the Masons Hall in Bland
ford, at which were present a very-numerous
and refpertable assembly of Ladies.
A cerrefpondent congratulates his fellow
citizeas upoath* recent glorious news from
France. I’ will be recoiletfed that the firll of
Ort ber was the day assigned by the Enemies
to Liberty, for a triumphal entrance of the
Duke of Brunswick into Paris. They rested
heir hoTes upon the illufoty reprefentation*
of t* e stfiir* cf France, and have been egre
gioully disappointed ; as it appears by the late
advices received from thence, that this hero
was compelled to make a ftnmeful retreat one
day prior to the time appointed for the fa . ren
der of the capital of France. A circumstance
which will give joy to every philanthropic
mind, as it will humble the views of aspiring
delpots—-A proof that a world of tyrants
cannot deprive a free people of their liberty,
who know how to appreciate the value of the
bl*fling. It is not only the releafment ot our
good allies from the horrors of war, that we
may expeft from this event; but we may rea
sonably anticipate the further progression of
Liberty. The French are as generous as
brave-—they will dideminate their principles
oi legation through ail unregenerated Eu
rope—and there never was a season better
adapted to this end. The sun-shine of reason
has edipfed the feeble ray* of royalty—
the people no longer gaz* upon' the bauble
wi;b that veneration it heretofore imprcflTed fc
they have already laboured too long under
the iron-hand of eppreffi n ; they now know
the authors of their affliction, and have the
mode of redtefs pointed out to them. But, "
while we contemplate the piofpeft of their
future happiness, we are ’led to lament the
degradation of human nature. How base,
how pitiable must be the condition of that
man, nay, a whole nation, who have been
brought to believe that an individual, and he
perhaps an idrot baa a right to difpoft of the
lives ands property of thoufand* merely ia
confidera'ion of his forefathers, or himfelf,
having by iomc ucjuftifiable means obtained a
