A Female Academy*
<To the Citizens of /tugufta and the
adjacent Counties.
A GENTLEMAN and bis LADY, who
have exhibited a fufficient testimony of
. their ability to inftrud youth, inufeful,
learning and feience, have taken a large house
in Augusta, where tber intend to educate
Young Ladiea on a plan, however wilhed

Parent* of refpedability. with whom an edu
cation for their children, in Come degree suit
able to their riling profpeds, ha* been some
year* an objed of their firft wilhes, are ear
ueftiy solicited to Hep forward, and cherish
in it* infancy, an institution intended to prevent
the difagreeablc expedient of fending their
daughter* to foreign ccuatric*, or permit
them to grow up in that ignorance, so much
lamented through the unavoidable interrupti
on, cf the arts, by a long and calamh us war.
TM Hate of Georgia, in unison with the
telingaof her filler Hates, lamenting this ebafm
in the inftrudion of their youth, has made
the moil liberal and generous appropriations
to support seminaries and academics, as well
as to ered an university for the accomplilh
\ meat of Young Gentlemen, in all ar s and
fcicnces, and as this is truly the case, it it
expeded that the policy will enlarge itfelf,
and ex-end at future period to provide,
liberally, for the support of such characters as
may be found qualified, to enlarge the female
mind, by a compe-eqt' portion of uleful and
ornamental knowledge.
Until something of this nature may take
place the proposers submit their claims to
individual patronage, and if they have any
fcoLfidenrt, that their talents will be reward-
it principally anfes from the prevalent
piflion, of this empire, to rival their ances
tors in science, and some infiance* of this
emulation might be mentioned, in proof
that in a short period tbeir efforts will be
fuccefilul.
In this Bemioaryit it prnpofed to teach
Spelling, Writing, EngJirti and French Gram
mar*, the Art orßcading in a ftyleof peculiar
correct ieft, Arithmetic and Geography—
The prices will be moderate and suited to the
age—the number of children in a family, a*
well as the various branches of education of
which they may £e capgo'e of attainment.
Further particulars may be known, and
references had from Mrs. Bugg, who living
contiguous to this Academy, will accomo
date a few borders on moderate terms.
N: B . The Academy will be divided
into apartment*, one appropriated
for Young Ladies, whose age might render
it painful to them to mix with the younger
claHies, and who, in common with them, will
be inflruded in every fpecioua of ufeful and
ornamental Needle-work*

N. B. As some illnatured and groundlcfa

which the planters of this flats and South
Carolina have hitherto reposed in it; in or
der to do away the ill opinion which these
reports were evidently designed to effeft,
it is deemed necessary to inform tbeir friends,
