J. STALLINGS,
November 28, 1793* E. STALLINGS.
~A C A U ¥ I 0 N!~
Notwithstanding Coi. James stai
lings, and his brother Capt. Ezekiel Stal
lings, are pleased to deny that Hunt, Stallings
and Co. have made any legal aflignment to us of
their personal property, stock in trade and debts;
yet in justice to ourselves, and to those whom
their publication of the 28th is intended to mis
lead—We do hereby agifin notify those concerned,
lhat the fubferibers, or Mr. Stratford Brown for
us, are the only persons to whom, those who are
indebted to Hunt, Stallings and Co. can with
iafety make payment-—We do further forwarn
the public against purchasing from Col. James Stal
lings the following negroes, or either of them, viz.
Dick, Peg, Fortune, Sylvia, Nancy, Mary and
her three children—asalfo against purchasing from
him any other fpecics of the personal property in
his pofleffion, the fame being included in the as
signment to us, a copy of which aflignment is on
record in the Clerk’s-Office of the Superior Court
of Richmond County, and the original may at
any time be seen on application at the late store
of Hunt, Stallings and Co.
BIRCH & OUVRY.
N. B. The above mentioned alignment duly*
proved and recorded, and repeatedly acknowledg
ed by Col. James Stallings, before the most ref
peftablc gentlemen of thrown, evinces clearly
that it \ya s not surreptitiously obtained, we sin
cerely wifli, as much could be said in favor of the
means used by the gentlemen to obtain that credit
; n England, which has been so great a misfortune
to us. BIRCH & OUVRY.
a 1—
I OBSERVE MefT. Birch ?nd Ouvry, in their
M publication, allude to fonte deception in the
firft outset of the I would to God there
had been such as to have prevented a second cargo
of goods being sent to us. Then my brother and
myfelf would not have been defrauded out of our
ihares of the profits arising from the sales, as per
account rendered, oi near 20,0001. firft cost of
goods, except what of them have been dandellinely
taken or stolen out of the store ; or, as feme of
our justices have decisively termed it, a breach , or
breeches am not sure which—however, if the for
mer, I doubt there being goods enough left in the
store to flop it;j if the latter, remnants and all
would fcarcly cut another pair of the fame size.
Whether it is legally termed theft or breach, I
will not undertake to determine; bi*t Mr. Birch
undertakes to cover it with h:s protections which
I hope justice will prove not fufficient.
Our firft importation of goods was about 6oo©b
sterling, and in lets than five months after our re
turn to Savannah, with what we firit carried over,
we {hipped to them upwards of 850 hogsheads of
tobacco, besides some other produce, which was
so great a deception -as to induce them to fend in
the feconid cargo 8 or 9000 b sterling worth of
goods—much to my forrow—for all the goods
and profits arising from the sales thereof* appear
not fatisfaftory to the combination, but our private
properties are also requested—l suppose to help
Mr. Birch’s proteClion to cover thole huge brea
clics*
