' FRANKFORT, March ig.
. A great number of letters, 7 sihich ar
rived yeflerday from Bi>(le, bring advice,
that a conference which tailed two da>s,
has taken place bet ween archduke Charles,
prince of Aremberg, and generals Buona
parte and Clarke, on the other. The
proposals of peace made by the French
generals to tire archduke are said to have
been equitable, and indeed very advanta
geous to Austria; and they only waited
the return ot the 'courier, whom his
dispatched to Vienna, to
ponlilh'the armiilice, which was to pre
cede the further nrgociations in Italy.
£aron Oaglemann is laid to have fre-
Saent conferences with Barthelemy at
iftfle, who has Tent several couriers to
Fari*.
V I E N N A, March 25.
The information received from Italy
is by no means favourable.—The French
have attacked the Austrian lines in Vene
tian Frioul, which brought on a bloody
eonteft, in which a number of men were
Jotl on both (ides.—The Austrians weie
. obliged to leave their advantageous po
rtion afar the French had been four
- tiroes rcpulfed, but returned with frelh
troops, which compelled the imperia
litls to retire behind the tiver Lizonza ;
the French then entering Udine, threa
tened Palma, Nuova, auJ even Trieste.
Two Austrian generals are made pri
soners,. and two squadrons of hussars
nearly cut in pieces.
Nothing could equal the courage of
the .Austrians in general, except that of
the archduke himielf, who was expofeJ
to the rood eminent danger. Two
French huflars were in a few paces of
him, who being observed by fjnie of the
archduke Jofeph/s hulT-irs, they .flew to
dtis relief, and cut down the French hus
sars, and thus saved the prince,; but the
most urplcafant circumftacce is, that at
present this general can no longer receive
any reinforcements immediately from
the Rhine through the Tyrolian country.
The circumflance of the archduke’s
being attacked on the fame day on which
he intended to have attacked the enemy,
has . given rife to a number of fpccula

In the account lately given of the fe
<ret articles of the treaty flgned at Baile,
'tnd ratified by a new convention on the
’his Prussian majesty, had made several
stipulations for himfeif, the fiadtholder,
and prince of Hcfle. The following was ■
the projeft—
The king of Prufiia to have the fertile
of Munller, which lies con
tiguous to his own poffeflions in the north
Os Germany.
Theftadtholdcr to have the bilhopricks
<jf Bamburgh and Wurtzburgh, which
were to be formed into an electorate,—
The prince of Hefle, to have the ab
bey of Fulda.—
' The eledlor of Hanover, to have the
Jnincipalities of Oznaburg, as -a bonus
or his acquiescence in this partition.
Every information supports the belief,
-that let the war terminate as it mav, the
king of Praffia, as well as the French
diredory, will be foiled in their plans,
of fecularifing Germany, and of reduc
ing the emperor’s authority as chief of
the empire.
Yeflerday afternoon, Mr. Coeurvoi

Captain Moore arrived yeflerday from
Cadiz informs, that that port was block
aded byna Britilh (hips of the line. He
touched at Madeira, where he was in
formed by captain Monk, that before he
Jest Rochelle, news had reached that
port, that the diredory had recalled Mr.
Pinckney. The date of captain Monk’s
leaving Rochelle is not mentioned, it is
therefore impossible to decide positively
on the credibility of the account. It is
not very probable from its nature.
