THAT separate proposals will be re
ceived at the office of the Secretary
for the Department; of war until the ex
piration of the 31st day of July next cn
, firing, for the supply of all rations, w Inch
may be required for the use of the United

places, viz.
First. At Niagara, at Detroit, at
Michilimacinac, and at Fort Wayi.c.
Second. At Cincinnati and St. Vin

A ration to con fid of eighteen ounces
of bread or flour, or when neither c:n lx
obtained, of one quart of riec, or otic
and an half pound of fitted or bolten in,
dian meal, one pound and a quarter of
beef, or three quarters of a pound of pork,
one gill of mu, whiskey or brandy, and
at the rate of two quarts ot fair, four
quarts of vinegar, four pounds ct soap,
and one pound and an half ot candles to
every hund.cd rations. The price ot the
fcvcral component parts of the ration, as
well as fubltitutes and alternatives, mult
be fpecificd.
The rations are to be furnlfhcd in such
quantities, as that there fhail at all times,
during'the term ot the propoted contrails,
be faille lent for the consumption of the
troops at Michilimacinac, Detroit and
Niagara for fix months in advance ; and
at each of the oilier ports on the wedern
waters, for at lead three months in ad
vance, of good and wheiefome provificns,
if the fame thall be required. It is alfcr
to be permitted to ail and every of the
co mmandants of fortified places, or pods,
to call tor at seasons wlicn the fame can
be transported, or at any time in the case
of urgency, such supplies oflike provlfi
ons in advance as in the diferetion ot the
commandant fhail be deemed proper. It
is to be uixleritood that the contractor is
to be at the%expence and risk .of ifluing
the supplies to the Troops and that all
losses fullained by the depredations of an
enemy, or by the means of the troops of
the United States, thall be paid for by
the United Slates, at the price of the ar
ticle captured or dellroyed, on the depo
fmons of two or more creditable charac
ters, and the certificate of a commiflioned
officer, af*crtaining the circumltnnces 01
the lots, and the amount of the articles
for which compensation thall be claimed.
The privilege is to be understood to he
reserved to the United States ot requiring
that none of the supplies which may be
iurnifhcd under any of the proposed con
traits, (hall be illlied until the supplies
which have been or may be furnifhed un
der contracts now in force, have beer,
consumed, and that a supply in advance
may be always required at any of the fix
ed polls on the seaboard or Indian Fron
tiers, not exceeding three months.

the contractor ihall forfeit one dollar; and
if the delay continue, until the departure
of any depending mail, whereby the mails

four routes are to continue in force for one
year from that time, and those numbered
tiom 25 to 48 are to continue until the
31st day of March, 1803.
