F RID AT, December 6* Mr. Gregg fa id he \v idled to submit tv the Moufo a resolution on a fubjert of con ficlerable importance, which had engaged the House at fevcral of its previous feiluns, and which was generally known by the name of the Yazoo claims. The dUUiffions - on this fubjert had occupied much time, and had excited'greater irritation than any other fubjert within these walls. He foppofed there was no probability that the fchjert would be permitted by the claimants to deep, while the art appropriating five millions was permitted to remain in force. His objert was to repeal that art. By this step the claimants would not be placed in a worse fit nation, as the courts of justice would b« open to them. faid Jie did not expert the House immediately to art on this refolulion, though he was prepared at once to go info it. Kur as it was important, and related to a fubjert on which the papers were voluminous, ho would be fatisfied’that it fiiould lie for fume time on the table, the more especially that new members might Be come acquainted with it. He then offered the following resolution : 1 Rffolved, That so much of an art entitled “ An Art regulating the grants of land, and providing tor (he disposal of the lands of the United States, fbuth of the ftatc of Tenneflce,” as appropriates any portion of said lands for the purpose of fatisfying, , quieting, or any-claims to"the said lands, derived from any art or preten ded art of the date of Georgia, and neither recognifed by the articles of agreement and celfion between the United States and the state of Georgia, nor embraced by the two firft fertious of the above mentioned art, be repealed. v 1 Ordered to lie on the tabic. . Mr. Varnum Cn\d t that during the late revolutionary war with Great-Brifain, the government of thc.U. S. had thought proper to place on the pen (ion lift certain officers and soldiers who had been wounded or difiu ble in the war. It Incf so happened* that, from a variety of circumstances, a large number ofour meritorious officers and soldiers of this deferiptioa had not been placed on the lift. A number of them had kept back, . and omitted reaping the benefit of this pro vision, under the exportation of supporting themselves by their own indufiry, or by the assistance of theirfriends. He believed that many had bees prompted to this by the most laudable motives. Many of them hid since found themselves enable to earn a decent fiib fifience. A number of pentions of this kind had this morning been referred to the Com mittee of Claims Gen. Varnum said it was his vviih that a general and ample pro vilion fiiould be made for all those who had bpen disabled in the revolutionary war. The Independence and happy situation of our country were owing to their exertion?, and our wealth now enabled us to make an ample piovificn. We therefore moved That the Committee of Claimsbe infiruc ted to enquire nhat further measures are ne ccflfiry to be adopted to remunerate the me-' ri'onous Ter vices of the officers and soldiers who were wounded or disabled in the revo lutionary war with Great Britain, with leave to report bp bill of other wife. This resolution was immediately taken u p and agreed to. '.l me flag: tv as deliveredfrom the Pr+Jident of she •titled Statu, by Mr. Colei, his /territory, us follows : " Mu.
