veyed to him on the 7th initanr, by a let

General’s Colleague, the Hen. Abraham
Baldwin, in the following words “ Ihe

HORRID MURDER 1
About 7 o'clock ou Tuefday evening last
in Effingham County', John London, efq. *
was Ihot off I.is hoife as he was returning
home from a neighbors within about a quar
ter of a mile of his cwn house. It was im
mediately discovered by one of his negroes
who was a Small dittance behind him, and
who alarmed the neighbors. It appeared
on examining his wounds and from every
ncccffary evidence chat he had been twice
(hot; the contents of one gun lodg
ed in his bawds, the other in the bread,
1 the whole amounting to 51 (hot. An in
qurft was held over the body and after taking
many affidavits on the fobjeff, the jury
gave it as their decided opinion, that he was
wilfully nmrdcrsd by one Lewis Magahagan,
with an accomplice [for it appeased there

ty of men went immediately in pursuit of
him but had r.ot found him on Fridry. He
was a near neighbor to Mr. London, and

body of John London Esq. Senator for
that county.

have been taken, there can remain but lit
tle doubt that she aforesaid murder was
by one Lewis M Gahagao,
