the DAILY times. THE CITY? The Trade —Yesterday w’as not so busy a day as we expect duiing the present week. Mon days and Saturdays are the dullest days during the week in our city. The wagons loaded with cot ton from the adjoining counties generally reach ( olumbus in the middle of the week, so as to re turn before Sabbath. The trade’is reviving in every department of our city, and businessmen seldom welcome a more forward season. If it continues during the next mouth with the same activity as now, it is probable that the price cotton will soon read its highest point. This is the opinion of those, who pretend to understand the fluctuations of the cotton markot. The gro cery trade, as well as the cotton, is brisk and active. The religions meeting at Pierce Chapel 1 is still going on with unabated interest. The ser vices continure every night during the present : week. Much good is anticipated. New Advertisements. —Who ever wants his ; cranium deco r ated with a superb hat should go ; at once to Landon’s. His assortment can not be I surpassed, but his price can—he sells cheap. The finder of a Breast Pin, lost near the Meth odist Church, will receive a liberal imvard and a j treat to Boda Water, by leaving it with Brooks Sc j Chapman. Paraguay. —Jndge Bowlin accepts the mission to Paiaguary tendered him by the Presi dent. What Cigars are Made of. —An in voice of foreign cigars, “real Havanas,” were recently appraised at the New York Custom House at $3 per thousand, but the importer being dissatisfied, anew appraise ment was made, which resulted in the ad mission of the cigars at $1,50 per thousand. The evidence, under oath, by which the change in the appraisement was made was this: That not a par’icle of tobacco enter- ; ed the composition of said cigars, but that they were wholly composed of oak and other loaves soaked in a strong tobacco <y°- m t r The Army.— Advices from Col. Sumner’s ■ command slate that, on the 14th ult., it was encamped on the Arkansas river, thiee : miles above Fort Atkinson. The Colonel j had, in accordance with the directions, of the War Department, visited three tribes ot Indians, ranging between the Platte and ; Arkansas rivers. The Pawnees, Cheyennes, i and Kiowas were severally visited, ands made promises of good conduct towards the white settlers in future. . The regiment was expected to reach Fort 1 L°avenwor h on the first of this month. dii;i>, sa "” In this city on the 11th inst., THOMAS G. j MOFFE I’T, son ot Henry Moffett, in the 26th year of his age. A protracted and painful illness had fore-warn ed his relatives and friends of thread event—had given them a pro libation of approaching sorrow, but had not prepared them tor the startling sense of desolation which his death awakened Love, 1 hopeml, imploring, still clung to its object with j affectionate tenaciiy, and even friendship dreamed j that so much ol goodness, of gentleness, ot virtue j would yet be spa ed. But the insatiate monster j could not be turned aside. The idol of many j hearts was stricken down. The circle of admir- \ ing manhood was invaded arid despoiled of its I chietost ornament. We bow to the rod which j smite.rus, but our hearts send torth from the in- | fliction, the bitter wators of sincere, though una- ! vailing, lamentation. Yet wo are not without ‘ comfort in our sorrow. The tears that bedew’ our j c 1 eeksand Hill upon his g ave aro unmixed with j any bitterness for frailty,or for vice. During his iil- \ ness, ho gave repeated assurance of that change of heart and acceptance with Gou which is able to rob death ot all his terrors and whieti makes the grave but a thin harrier dividing earth from heaven. Then, from the sod that covers the perishable i relics of the son, the brother, the friend, let the i w Id flower spring to tell of his own transitory j bloom, and there, too, let the evergreen be plant ed a lit emblem ot the immortal verdure of that j paradise to which his spirit huh ascended. “The wintry blast of death kills not the buds of j virtue ” —Eds. ■ ■ ■■ -i , | HAIR RESTORATIVE. Old and young are now indiscriminately using Prof Wood’s Hair Restorative; some as a j cosmetic or beauufier of the complexion, some to pieventtne mn ‘in ling, some as a mere dressing ; of the hair and others to make it grow’ and to i change gray hair to its original color; and there | is no doubt of its answering all the purposes lor which it was designed by its illustrious inventor. We are utterly averse to incurring editorial re sponsibility in trifling matters, but as we deem it ; no trifling matter to have the hair on a gentle- j man’s head (when prematurely lulling off) netu ally and permanently restored, so neither do we consider it unworthy the editorial profession to recommend a llair Restorative that will effect j this very thing. Wood’s celoorated Hair Resto rative is the article we have in view, and it the certificate of the most distinguished men in the country are entitled to credence is this preparation all that is claimed for it on the part ot its propri etor. THE GRENADA ELIXIR, OR South American Antidote for Malaria? Is a sure Cure and Perfect Route to Ague and Fever, Chill and Ft ver, Dumb Asue, and all Bilious Affections'. IT has been thoroughly “tested in thousands of cases, some ot years’ standing, where Quinine and all the most popular remedies of the day had failed, but the Elixir has met with the most tri umphant success; never failed to cure the must obstinate cases. The unanimous testimony of all who have used or witnessed its operations, declare iKo be Ihe most extraordinary medirine ever dis covered for the quick and permanent cure of Fe* : ver and Ague, ft operates as a gentle Tonic and I stimulant, gradually but surely; eradicates every ! vestige of disease, and restores the system to health j and vigor. It imparts new vitality to the blood, j and will soon induce the glow of health to return j to the pale and swarthy complexion. The advantage of this medicine therefore is, that a cure must be radical and complete; not simply breaking the Chill, by producing a “new impress sion"’ upon the nervous system, without reference to the operations of the malarious poison, which 19 allowed io remain unchanged and renew its at tacks, immediately alter the nervous system has ceased to leel the artificial disease—induced by Quinine and many other preparations generally resorted to- The GRENADA ELIXIR acts di rectly upon the Liver, Stomach, Kidneys, Pores of ihe Skin, and produces a radical cure. Ir contains no ingredient the least injurious to i the system, and can he given to an infant with i perfect safety. It is warranted to cure every cas<* I when taken as directed.
