Interesting Calculation —A Yankee is a calculating institution, and nothing comes along that he does not subject to the ordeal of figures, in some wa v. The last instance that has come under our observation is the following, which occurs in the course of some editorial speculations upon the comet: I's tail is at least 6,000 OjO miles in length. To grease that tad, it is estimated, would use up a basin of fat as large as Lake Ere, and give constant employment to 50,000 “daubers,” for 10 years. DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD. On Sabbath be tore her death, she attended church, though slightly indisposed ; oo Tuesday she was considered by her physician and friends improving, but on Sabbath morning she had a • congestive chd , and at 2 o’clock was dead. n the death of this most excellent woman, we ; are assured that another humble and submissive , Christian, has triumphed over our last enemy, and given her dying testimony in proof of the divinity j of the gospel, the power ol the Cross to save 1 Her last words were, there is a reality in it. I have a father in Heaven, that will take care of me. As in life, so in a- ath, she evinced the steadfastness of her faith and comfort in God. Possessed of a meek and quiet spirit, unobtrusive in manner, her piety fell bke a soft, and pure light upon her house hold, he< husband and children, and servants, a re fining and elevating influence, and the commuuity i ia which she lived, saw in her daily walk and conversation, the excelleacy of the knowledge of ; Christ Je-us the Lord. An affectionate daughter and sister, a devoted wile and mother, a kind mistress, ha* thus passed away; she conquered .by faith. May those she ; loved and from whom she has been taken, strive to meet h=r in the home of the good. “Could friends have lengthened out tby days, And kept thee from the grave, Thou wouidst have lived tor maay years, But oh! we could not snve. “With resignation, th*n we bow.
