Sales 961, ranging from 10 1-2 to. 11 cents, only choice lots commanding the latter figure. Montgomery, Oct. 18, 1858. COTTON Weekly Report —The cotton mar ket during the past week was inactive—prices sink ing daily, aiid establishing a decline of l-2e. for lire week. The receipts of the week wore 7,43? bale?, and notwithstanding the dull state of the market planters are pressing sales. Owing to the low state of the liver, there is very little shipping that way. We have to depend on sending to N- York by railroad to Savannah, which adds much to the cost, as railroad transportation is much higher than hy water. The buyers are banking up their cotton here, waiting for the river naviga tion to rand it. North. Our warehouses from this causa aro nearly full. The weather continues to be all that could bo desired for housing the crop* which continues to be of the best saved in many years. Sales about 650 bales, at 10 l-2(2>11c. Montgomery, Oct. 19. COTTON. —There was a good demand from shippers to-day, and a large business was done.— Middlings 10i to 102. Good middlings 11c. Cotton- The Cotton receipts at all the ports are very heavy for the season, and the staple continues to pour in from all parts of the cotton growing States. Our Prices Current of last week, issued on Friday, exhibited an inreease of the receipts at all the ports, up to that date, of 156.700 bales, compared with those of last year, and an increase of 109,227 in the stock on hand at the same date. These facts would seem, of themselves, to pre sage a very heavy crop, but the very extraordinary season that has favored the opening of the crop, and forwarded the operation of gathering, should not be left out of the account. Then, the plant ers all agree that the crop is maturing in a body this year, that very few’ bolls remain to open hereafter, and that nearly the entire product will have been housed by the middle of November.— We may here say, for the information of our read ers abroad, that it is not unusual, in productive years, for the picking to continue until Christmas and even into January. How far these considerations should qualify any present estimate of the crop, we are unprepared to say. We have an abiding conviction though, that notwithstanding it may reach considerably beyond the figure of last year, it will not be too large for the demand, or large enough to bring the pi ice be low a fair remunerating point. The labors of the planter, in our humble opinion, are bound to be well rewarded. — Sav. Republican. gas- Arrivals at'Savannah. Ship 11 L Lane, Coullier, New Y ork, in ballfst, to Brigham, Baldwin &.
