THE DAILY TIMES. THE CITY. ‘ Attention !!! The voters of the 773d District Cl. M., will re member that the election for Justice of the Peace for that District takes place at the Court House to-day. Polls open at 734 o'clock. We suggest that friend Lawes could havo no worthier succes sor than W. R. Turman. New Advertisements. The admirers of the writings of the gifted but unfortunate Edgar A. Poe, can now have an op portunity of securing his complete w'orks by ad dressing J. S. Redfield, 34 Beekman St. N. Y.— See his advertisement in another column. Read the advertisement of our young friend G. T. Williams, Photographic artist. Though young in the cause he is willing, and will doubt less be able to furnish all with a handsome like ness who favor him with a sitting. While his ap paratus will detract nothing from the beautiful, it will give a pleasant appearance to “hard” looking faces. So spruce up and give him a trial. Our readers are also referred to the law card of Mr. J. S. Stephens. Office up stairs at No. 2S Broad street. There* are several aspirants for the office of De puty Marshal. Read their cards, ponder their claims, be sure you’re right then go ahead. See sundry legal advertisements. All those sighing for the good things of this life and the flesh pots thereof, are referred to the ad vertisement of Van Marcus, who is’ offering a col lection of goodies sufficient to tempt the palate of a man whose digestion is weak and appetite bad. Crawl up then, ye hungry, and for a moderate compensation Van will supply you with something that will ‘stonish your “inards.” The Wine of life. The poet may sing of the blood-red wine, He may chant the charms of the* purple vine; But tho wine I prize all others above Is the wine of life, and its name is love. From a ruby chalice this wine o’erflows. Purer than crystal, and sweet as a rose; It gladdens the soul, yet never can dim; Though thousands quaff - , it is full to the brim: It bubbles and sparkles with inward fires, Which kndle the flame of noblest desires; It strengthens the weak, makes the timid bold; On the darkest lot ‘tis a gleam of gold. Makes sad hearts gay; ‘tis the rainbow oftears, Giving hues of hope to the coming years; 0 rarer and dearer, this wine of mine, Than any that flows from the purple vine! Ye who have tasted the juice of the vine, Whose clusters hang thick by the river Rhine, Or have sought to quicken dead leaves again, In draughts of Tokay, Madeira, Champagne, And found the nectar ye crave and drink, Like apples which grow on the Caspian’s brink— Couldye taste this wine,'twould new life impart; ‘Tis the wine of love—its chalice the heart! ELLIS Sc MATHIS Columbus, Oct. 20, 1858. lmdw BARBOUR COUNTY LANDS FOR SALE. HAVING purchased land in the West, I now oiler tor sale both my pantations, lying on the Nurth Cowikee Creek. The place on which I now reside, known as the Barna ivey Plantation contains 2,475 acres, with a large proportion of lfesh and Hammock land. Tib re are on the plan tation 1,400 acres cleared, and in a fine state of cultivation, thoroughly drained, with a large num ber ot well located ditches. The dwelling is commodious, having 6 large rooms, neatly finish ed, and is situated within the corporate limits o Glennville, convenient to the Colleges and Churches. The out houses are in good repair and sufficient for the accommodation of 100 negroeS- On th s place, are two new gin houses, one of which is propelled by water power, to which is attached a grist mill, all in good order. Lying broadside this place is my other planta tion, recently owned by Col. W. II- Owens, con taining 901 acres. The dwelling, out houses, gin house and screw are all new and well finished, aud equally convenient to Glennville. Being de termined to sell, i would not object to dividing my lands to suit purchasers. To those acquainted wi*h these lands I need not say more —to those at a distance, I would say that they cannot be ex celled in poiat of health or productiveness in east Alabama. Glennville is noted for the morality, intelligence and refinement of its citizens. It is situated 12 miles from ihe Mobile and Girard Railroad, 6 miles from Jernigan, a s’eamboat landing on the Chattahoochie river, and 16 miles from Eufaula, to which point the South-Western Railroad cl Georgia will soon be completed. For further par ticulars, address me at Glennville, Alabama. P.S. As 1 am axious to carry out my plans west I propose if 1 can find a purchaser lor ihe above named lands, to let them go at the low price of twelve dollars and a half per acre, cash. And if not sold before Saturday the twentieth of November next, 1 will have them divided into two or more tracts by asuivey, and offer them on that day at public outcry to the highest bidder. Land buyers might do well to examine the lauds before buying elsewhere. H. BASS.
