THE DAILY TIMES. THE CITY. Postponement. The Auction Sale of Furniture advertised by Messrs. E!hs <£ Mathis for yesterday was post poned, on account of the weather, until to-day at 110 clock. Those in want of Furniture had better attend. Rev Mr.Dalzell writes as follows, in a pri vate letter, which wo give, only adding, that none of our readers, we are sure, can have forgotten tho noble conduct of Mr. Dazell in Savannah, du ring the fever that desolated that beautiful city, shortly after his arrival in this country:— ‘•Houston'. October 4. You have doubtless heard how fatal the Yellow Fever is now at Galveston. I have been down three or four times for a day or two at a time, and am going down again this evening. But we now have a few cases of fever here; and I fear it will be worse in a day or two; so that I shall expoct to be summoned back at anv moment to attend to mv flock.” [From the Alabama Whig.] Tii3 Wedding. I saw them standing side by side, The Bridegroom and the blushing Bride; His form was that of manly grace, His dark curls hid his glowing face— His dark eye on her form was bent, As fondly on bis arm she leant, With gentle and confiding love, The eagle and the tender dove. No costly gems or diamonds rare Were sparkling in her raven hair; No rings her taper fingers deck, No pearls adorn her snowy neck, But round her form, so fair and light, A simple robe ol'spotless white. The priest the solemn words lias said, Their bauds are joined, the promise made— A flush the bridegroom’s brow o’erspread, lie whispered “yes,” and they were wed— The lady moved not—could not speak— But oh ! the blush that dyed her cheek Did more of feeling far betray Than the fond word she wished to say. The bridegroom cast one look of pride, And whispered softly, “ thou’rt my bride;” Ho asked her when he heard her sob, “ Why Ella, don't you lore your Bob f” Chambers. From the Journal of Commerce. November. Boru of a race of funeral flowers.— Halleck. BY WII.LIAM ROSS WALLACE. I. My heart is bowed: hark ! how the wings, Of dark November's mournful breeze, Like musings over broken hopes, Are rustling through the faded trees, And hear the billow at his chant, So sad, so restless on the shore, That seems as if ’twould never know The golden sunshine any more— While leaden yonder Autumn sky, And bleak the great sea groaning by. 11. My heart is bowed: you call it weak, To let the season, darkling round, Thus fill its halls with gloomy thought, And many a soul-subduing sound: Ah ! name it is so then, stern eyed ono ! But still no shrinking shame is mine, For something ever in such time, Will lead me to pale Memory’s shrine, Where withered flowers are thickly wreathed, And sad, though beautiful, dirges breathed. 111. The flowers they tell of bright hopes gone, Hopes born in innocence of youth, When every cloud a sainbow b:ars, And every brow seems crowned with truth. I know that manhood should not grieve— Tall manhood in the mighty strife— That such the fate of every barque, Launched ou the roaring sea of life; Bat when will bow tho aching heart To Fate, nor shrink from Wisdom’s part? IV. The dirges—whose the dirges here? One for a glorious father gone, (Waatloss, 0. what lifo-wituering loss !) E. r ea in my childhood's opening dawn : An other for the small, dear one, Who roamed with mein Youth’s green bow;r3, Wnea wo together scattered buds, Upon the soft wings of the hours: 0, Father! Sister! how I hear Tho wiiu winds wail above the bier! V. My heart is bowed: though far away, Dear mother! thou seem’st with me now— The dirges also in thy soul, And memory on thy fading brow; 0, give mo something of the hope That from religion thou dost know, And I mav feel that Eden yet May spriug from thorny wastes of wo. While leaden yonder Autumn sky, And bleak the great sea groaning by ! DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD. Columbus Times Office, Nov. 9, COTTON. —Yesterday was another dull day in cotton. Receipts light. The place on which I now reside, known as the Barna Ivey Plantation contains 2,475 acres, with a large proportion of fresh and Hammock land. Th re are on the plan tation 1,400 acres cleared, and in a fine state >f cultivation, thoroughly drained, with a large num ber ot well located ditches. Tliß dwelling is commodious, having 6 large rooms, neatly finish ed, and is situated within the corporate limits o Glennville, convenient to the College.3 and Churches. The out houses are in good repair and sufficient for the accommodation of 100 negroes. On th s place, are two new gin houses, one of which is propelled by w-ater power, to which is attached a grist mill, all in good order. Lying broadside this place is mv other planta tion, recently owned by Col. W. H* Owens, con taining 901 acres. The dwelling, out houses, gin house and screw are all new and well finished, and equally convenient to Glennvilie. Being de termined to sell, 1 would not object to dividing my lands to suit purchasers. To those acquainted with these lauds i need not say more—to those at a distance, I would say that they cannot be ex celled in point of health or productiveness in east Alabama. Glennville is uoted for the morality, intelligence and refinement of its citizens. It is situated 12 miles from the Mobile and Girard Railroad, 6 miles from Jernigan, a steamboat landing on the Chattahoochie river, and 16 miles from Eufaula, to which point the South-Western Railroad ci Georgia will soon be completed. For further par ticulars, address me at Gieanville, Alabama. P S. As 1 am axiou* to carry out my plans west I propose if 1 can find a purchaser lor the above named lands, to let them go at the iow price oi twelve dollars and a half per acre, cash. And if not sold before Saturday the twentieth of November next, I will have them divided into two or more tracts by asuivay, and offer them on thatday at public outcry to the highest bidder. Land buyers might do well to examine the lands before buying elsewhere. H. BASS. Oct 22,1653. _ d&wtf TO THOSE INDEBTED.
