Wc invite tho attention of our roaders to the
Card of Mr. Pclot, proposing to open a Second
Course of Lectures on the science of Doubly En
try Book-Keeping at Concert Hall on Monday
evening next. Those of our young juen who
may iutend following book-keeping for a life bu
siness, would do well to embrace the opportunity
now being offered by Mr. I*.
Read the long and interesting Presentments of
the Grand Jury of this county.
Attempt at Suicide.—We learn that Thomas
Reynolds, who was committed to Jail a few days
ago, for theft (we believe) made several unsuc
cessful attempts, on yesterday, to kill himself by
cutting his throat. The instrument he employed
was a picco of glass, taken from a broken win
dow patio. 110 was discovered by a servant in
time to prevent the fulfilment of his purpose, and
was band-cuffed by the jailor.

fi£F'The Federal Union informs us that, in
consequence of the inclemency of tho weather, the
address of Hon. Henry R. Jackson was postponed
from Monday till Tuesday (last) night.
W ants to Come Back. —Tho negro woman
who ran away from her owner, Col. Samuel G.
Jones, of this eilv, while in New York, uinonth or
two ago, has written a letter to a friend of Col.
Junos, in Virginia, asking intercession to gain
permission for her to come home again. She ex
pects to starve or freeze to death in New York, if
she is not allowed to return. —Montgomery Mail.
The Editor of the Son of Temperance,
writing from ‘ Charleston on the 12th instant,
says:
•‘The hoary herald of health has visited the city,
the absentees are returning by thousands, and the
crowded streets and busy thoroughfares show that
business, trade and travel are resuming their won
ted channels. King street is once more in its hol
iday attire, and looks like a grand bazaar, a mo
ving panorama ofbeauty and fashion. The mer
chants have brushed the dust from their counters
and the funeral expressions from their faces,
and are displaying their wares and greeting
their customers with smiles gratis, and goods at
cost.”
A Close Calculation. —An exchange expres
ses tho opinion that tho incoming crop will be bc
tw.ion three and four million of bales! We agree
with him.— Sav. Republican.
DULY COMMERCIAL HECOUI).
COTTON.—The receipts for the day are 823
bales and the sales 704 bales, at 10 to 10% for
low to good middlings. For fancy lots a still
higher figure is claimed, though we have heard
sales above the quotations given.
Montgomery, Nov. 22, 1853.
COTTON—There was a good demand to-day
from shippers, but the business was restricted,
owing to the limited supply on sale, factors holding
their stock at higher prices than the Views of buy
ers. We quote middling 10 to 10%c-; Good mid
dling 10% to 10%.
Charleston, Nov. 22.
COTTON—SaIes of cotton to-day 1,200 bales,
at full prices.
Savannah, Nov. 22.
The Sales of Cotton to-day were 1,900 bales.
There was a good demand at firm prices Good
Middlings 11% cents.
Acousi a, Nov. 22.
COTTON—The sale sales of cotton this fore
noon were 205 bales, as follows: lat 9; 19 at 10.
40 at 10%; 10 at 10%; 41 at 10%; 16 at 10%; 5S
at 10%: and 80 bales at 11 cents. Wc notice no
change since Saturday. The offering stock is
light, and factors acting under orders from plan
ters. only sell when they have orders to sell.

to this Catalogue. He is confident that he has
the finest and targest collection of Rosea in the United

They cannot be surpassed North or South.
The Catalogue prices are retail prices. Nursery
men, Dealers, or Amateurs, ordering a hundred or more,
will be supplied at from to 5*25 per hundred, provi
ded five or more of each kind are taken; except the
newest kinds, which have not been propagated exten
sively yet —of such the Catalogue prices will be enfor
ced.
Orders should be sent before the 15th of December,
to obtain all the varieties enumerated. As some varie

ordered.
Packing will be done in the best manner, so that with
proper care and despatch they will go to any part of
the country in entire safety. A small charge for pack

Every kind and variety will be labelled properiv.
Terms —cash, or good references in this city should
accompany the orders; also directions for markin j and
shipping the packages.
The stock of Evergreens are all hardy in the South
ern States; they ate grown here out door, and some
could not be got of the same size in the country.
Everything will be sold lower than at any Southern
Nursery, that is for plants of the same kinds and sue.
My stock of Pear Trees is the best ever_ offered for
sale South, for size and quaiiiy; most of theta will

WILLIAMS’
PICTURE GALLERY IN FULL BLAST.
I'IIE undersigned announces to the citizens of Co
lumbus, and in fact to all Georgia, that he is now
taking Pictures in as good style as they can be taken
in the “Empire State,” either by aforeio~n or vnttve ar
tist. His prices range from that much despised nun—
fifty cents to ten dollars. And although he does not
pretend to say that he is the best artist in the United
States, yet he fears not the result of a coniDarison with
those whose reputation is bolstered up by long adver
tisements and puffs of their own manufacture. lie
prefers that ladies and gentlemen should judge for
themselves. And if those in want of a good Picture
will call and give him a trial, he will convince them
that he fully understands the modus operandi of picture
taking. Ali he wants is a fair and impartial trial, and
he fears no competition from any quarter.
His Gallery is over Barnard’s Store. Broad Street,
where he will be happy to receive visitors and show
them his specimens at all times.

('"''tOXSUMERS of Richardson’s Linens, and those de
.J strous of obtaining the GENUINE GOODS, should
see that the articles they purchase are sealed with the
full name of the firm,

as a guarantee of the soundness and durability of the
Goods.
This caution is rendered essentially neressary, as
large quantities of inferior and defective Linens are
prepared, season alter season, and sealed with the
name of RICHARDSON, by Irish Houses, who,
regardless of the injury thus indicted alike on the Ame
rican consumer and the manufacturers of the genuine
goods, will not readily abandon a business so profitable
while purchasers can be imposed on with goods of a
worthless character.
