to be sold nt public outcry, before Harrison <fc
Pitt’s auction room, on Monday last, by Martin J
Crawford, Ex'r, was postponed, in consequence
of the inclement weather, until to-morrow (Wed

Theatrical.
We go to press too early to give any notice of
the first performance in our city of Mr. Fleming’s
Dramatic Corps. If we shall be as much pleased
with that effort of the company as we are with the
modest aud gentlemanly demeanor of its leader,
we will have a good account to render of it in our
next issue. The bill presented for to-night is an
excellent one, and should command an overflow
ing house.
Miss Charlotte Thompson makes her first
appearance to-night. Refer, for further particu
lars, to our advertising columns.
A Spirited Trotting .Match.
St. Louis, Nov. 26.—An exciting trotting
match came off here yesterday, between Florida
Temple and Reindeer, for a purse of one thous
and dollars. The purse was given to Reindeer,
in consequence of a collision in the second heat,
which was attributed to foul play on the part of
Florida's rider.

A Nong for the Day.
0 sons of Columbia, awake,
A tempest is brooding afar ;
’Twill your boasted privilege shake,
‘Twill the meed of the heroes of seventy-six break
It comes in the crimson of war.
Foul seize on the rude Britons 3ueer;
Death fall on his blustering might:—
Aro ye abjectly pausing in fear—
M ill ye tamely submit to bo trampled on here—
At the very door of your right ?
Go ! spread ye your thoughts to the wind ;
Give air to the toil of your brain :
For why is it lag ye behind?—
The threats of your twice humbled foemen ye
mind,
While ye slander your sires that are slain.
Behold your proud Eagle arise,—
Spread his pinions and court the sun’s glare.
And plainly ainnff fhn Klim slrinu
Far, far to the Southward he fearlessly flies; —
What! dare ye not follow him there ?
Then on, with the eagle in view:
Scorn Europe’s monarchial frown ;
Cry “Walker!” the “red, white and blue”—
Nicaragua haste for the eagle there flew; —

The following letter, addrossed by the Emperor
Napoleon to the Prince Napoleon, Minister of
Algeria and the Colonies, appears in the Paris
Moniteur :
St. Cloud, October 30.
My Dear Cousin : —I have the liveliest desire
that, at the moment when the difference with Por
tugal relative to the Charlcs-et-Georges has ter
minated, the question of the engagement of free
laborers on the African coast should be definitely
examined and finally settled on the truest princi
ples of humanity and justice.
I energetically claimed from Portugal the resti
tution of the Charlcs-et-Georges, because I will
always maintain intact the indepeudence of the
national flag: and, in this case, it was only with
the profound conviction of my right that I risked
with the King of Portugal a rupture of those
friendly relations which 1 am glad to maintain
with him.
But as to the priueipleof the engagement of the
negroes, my ideas are far from being settled. If,
in truth, laborers recruited on the African coast
arc not allowed the exercise of their free will, and
if this enrolment is only the slave-trade in disguise,
l will have it on no terms ; for it is not I who will
any where protect enterprises contrary to progress,
to humanity and to civilization.
I beg you, then, to seek out the truth with the
zeal and intelligence which you bring to bear on
all affairs which you take in hand: aud, as the
best method of putting an end to what is a con
tinual cause of dispute, would be to substitute the
free labor of the Indian Coolies for that of the ne
groes, I beg you to come to an understanding with
the Minister of Foreign Affairs to resume with the
English Government the negotiations which were
entered upon a few months ago.
Whereon, my dear cousin, I pray God to have
you in his holy keeping.

FOR THE TIMES.
Messrs hdieors :—You will please announce me
as a candidate for Marshall of Columbus, at the
ensuing election to be held on the second Satur
day in December.
It is objected to me by some, that I have alrea
dy an office on the railroad. But it should be re
collected that I am a man of family and have chil
dren growing up. My present position keeps me
from home nearly all my time, and thus my offi
cial duties conflict with those which every father
owes to his family. Married men, especially, will
appreciate this reason for my dt .-ire to secure a
station which will allow me to live at home.

This is a purely vegetable compound, prepared on
strictly scientific principles, after the manner of the
celebrated Holland Professor, Boerhave, Because
of its great success in most of the European States,
its introduction intp the United States was intended
more especially for those of our fatherland scattered
here and there >verthe faceofthia mightycouutry.
Meeting with great success among them, I now of
fer itto the American public, knowing that its truly
wonderful medicinal virtues must be acknowledged*
It is particularly recommended to those persons
whose constitutions may have been impaired by the
continuous use of ardent spirits, or other forms of
dissipPition. Gent rally instantaneous in effect, it
finds its way directly to ihe seat of life, thrilling and
quickening every nerve, raising up the drooping
spirit, and, in fact, infusing new health and vigor in
the system.
NOTICE, —Whoever expects to find this a beve
rage will be disappointed ; butte the sick, weak
and low spirited, it will prove a grateful aromatic
cordial, possessed of siiigul -.r remedial properties.
