THE daily times. the city. Christmas week Is over. To-day i ' s tlio last <laJr of Christmas. . During t j, e week the weather has been most unpropitimis lor the pleasures and pastimes connected with its H dvcut. The rain has fallen—the clouds have liun'rlow— the days have been dark. The negroes, • notwithstanding, have had a jubilee—they have monopolised foe streets —spent all their Christmas money— bought the old ’omen and children a lit tle of everything and arc happy in the contempla tion of beginning anew year. The boys commenced very brisk in firing of crackers on Christmas eve, but their enthusiasm sn ,l excitement have subsided and like their fathers they wish “Christmas was over.” To day is the last day. We return thanks for privileges and blessings bestowed on us during the year 1858. and begin the new year with the in tention of living upright and just—paying our debts— loving our neighbor and being more useful to society. ■ The Diver—Rain The river is in tine boating order and ou steamers are running to Apalachicola. The streets are muddy and sloppy, and the merchants are do ing little business. . A The Carriers. Look out to-morrow for the Carriers of the “Times.” They expect to greet the readers every morning during the year 1859 with a bright mor ning-face They present their address, while their modesty might forbid them extending their hand. Remember the custom and their errand ? We know the ‘ “Times” readers will understand their yearly visit. New Advertisements. We call attention to the advertisement of Mr. A. F. Langford, located at Gunby’s corner, deal er iu fresh fish of all kinds, fruits, confectionery, Ac. Those in want of anything in the above line will find it to their intererst to give Mr. L. a call. He will be thankful for public patronage. We also invite the public attention to the ex tensive sale of land and negroes, to take place near Tallahassee, Fla., on the 13th January, as the property of E. C. Cabell of Tallahassee, Fla. and 11. C. Cabell, of Richmond, Va. To men cf capital, wishing to invest in this species of prop erty, this sale will afford a rare opportunity. The Lumpkin Palladium.— Our citizens and business men, who look for custom from South- Western Georgia, are invited to read the adver tisement. of the Palladium published at Lump kin, Ga. It is the intention of the proprietor of this flourishing country paper to bring it out in a new dress and enlarged form: and thus improved, under the supervision of its talented editor, it will soon rank amongst the first.newspapers iu South Western Georgia. Columbus merchants,'wishing to extend a knowledge of themselves and business throughout the rich and growing section where it circulates, could not, doubtless, do so more sue- i cessfnlly than by availing themselves of its col umns as an advertising medium. Buckley’s Opera Troupe This decidedly talented Ethiopian Burlesque Opera Company, gave their last amusing enter tainment in this city on Wednesday night. During the entire stay of this corps in Colum bus the weather was very unpropitious, and the last two nights their audiences were materially lessened by the performances of the Circus.— Hence their comparatively slim houses. We make no pretension to the office of musical critic. But if our ears and eyes did not deceive us, we arc quite fixed in the opinion that this is the best company of the kind that has visited us in some time. Their negro delineations are uniques —their music, and especially their operatic cho ruses, in perfect harmony and time, and the ac tors in the several pieces, evinced a familiarity with tho most abstruse and difficult pieces which made them quite at home. The man with music in his soul, could not have failed .on Wednesday night to leel an elevating and pleasurable thrill during the performance of that quartette. The rendering the fairy Opera of Cinderella. was in admirable taste, and proves the Buckleys to boas proficient as actors, as they are perfect as musicians. It were hard to discriminate where all did so well. If. however, Pedro happens ou here again, he shall certainly have the refusal of “our old hat.” His “take-off's” can’t be beat. DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD. Coluebus, Dec. 31. COTTON—The operations in cotton continue to be very light. The enquiry is quite limited while holders seem to he very firm in their asking prices.
