THE CITY.
The Railroad Catastrophe.
Our reporter, who was despatched yesterday
taerniug, to the scene of the terrible railroad ac
cent, has returned with additional particulars of
L tr uly deplorable accident. He reports that
Several more bodies have been recovered—five
were brought to the city on yesterday evenings
’a,non- the number of bodies which were recov
[oa yesterday, are those of the children Mr.
everett of Louisiana, and a Mr. Ely of New
MnLeverett, of Benville Parish,Louisiana, came
non the cars yesterday afternoon. He has by
his deplorable casualty, been deprived of a wife
iu d three children : and their bodies are now in
his city awaiting their removal to their homes.
During the day the body of Mr. Allen h. Ely,
D f the firm of Durie & Ely, was found. Ilis re
naius were brought to town, and will be forward
id in the family in New York, where
i wife and two children.
One of the saddest facts which we are compelled
to relate is the loss of Mr. C. .T. M. Dixon, of Lon
don, Eugland. His body has not yet been recov
ered but from the recovery of baggage &c., we
are convinced that he must have been on board
and in all probability, lost.
A number of letters were found in his baggage
which showed him to be a gentleman of education
and respectability. He was a Civil Engineer in
the service of the English East India Railway*
Company and his business in this country was
to note and observe the improvements in Ameri
can Railway. His valise was found; and among
iis contents were letters of introduction from
prominent engineers of the North, to gentle
men of distinction in the South. A number of let
ters were shown from a father and other relations
which proved him to be a fond and affectionate
I son, and a devoted relation.
The rumor current in the city yesterday that
one of the ladies, whose body, was recovered was
robbed, is without foundation —a gentleman was
arrested and was in custody four or five hours
yesterday, who assisted in rescuing the body of
the lady reported to be robbed. The money sup-’
posed to be on her person was found in a carpet
bag that was discovered near the wreck.
The bridge, over which the train passed, was
forty feet from the water and only twenty five
feet ; n length. The Engine, though weighing
twenty tons, was not directly under the bridge
but fully twenty feet'below. It was turned com
pletely over—wheels up —and a boxcar laying on
top of it. The main passenger ear was over a
mile below the wreck.
Many of the passengers had money about their
persons and sumo Bank bills were found yesterday
in the trees below the bridge.
The efficient Post Master of this city, Dr. II M
Jeter, found after a diligent search, all the mail
bags sent out by Friday morning’s mail along the
banks of the creek. The following is a li°t of the
passengers saved.

This is a purely vegetable compound, prepared on
strictly scientific principles, after the manlier of the
celebrated Holland Professor, Bcerhave. Because of
its great success in most of the European States, its in
troduction into the United States was intended more
especially for those of our fatherland scattered here
and there over the face of this mighty country. Meet
ing with great success among them, I now offer it to
the American public, knowing that its truly wonderfu
medicinal powers must be acknowledged.
It is particularly recommended to tiiose person !
whose constitutions may have been impaired by the
continuous use of ardent spirits, or other forms of dis
sipation. Generally instantaneous in effect, it finds its
way direct] ,- to the seat of life, thrilling and quickening
every nerve, raising up the drooping spirit, and in (act
infusing new health and vigor in the system.
NOTICE.- Whoever expects to find tins a beverage
will be disappointed; but to the sick, weak, and low
spirited, it will prove a gratvful aromatic cordial, pos
sessed of singular remedial properties.
