‘in Northern Liberties, can hear of one by apply
ing to \V. W. R- bipson, or Ja3. A. Bradford.
Muscogee Fire Company No. 3, meets this ev„
_ ening at 7 o’clock, for the election of officers for
the ensuing year, and drill. .
Messrs. Brands & Korner at 36 Broad Street,
are offering an assortment of Pianos, Melodeons,
&c.at New York prices. If youneed such things
call round and see.
A. H. Shepherd, is offering to hire, for a mode- |
rate compensation, a valuable negro boy.
Persons having a small body of woodland to
dispose of near this city, can hear of an opportu
nity by application at this office.
The P.eceiit Bains.
From the intelligence we have from the West,
we judge that the heavy fall of rain during ;
Christmas week, has damaged much the roads iu
Alabama. The Pensacola Railroad suffered a
great deal from the freshet. The Chattahoochee
river, while it is bigb, is not so full as it was last
winter. The Flint river, it is said, is as booming
as it was 1841. Besides the culverts and bridges
which we have heretofore noticed as being wash
ed away, is the one over Tar River, about twenty
miles from this City on the Muscogee Road. This
road will be ready for the mails in a few days. The
Mobile and Girard Railroad wiii also have its Cul
verts repaired and be ready for the passengers
during the week. We published a letter vestor
day from Major Howard, the President of the
Road, stating that tho cars would run over the
road perhaps on Wednesday.

Sunshine.
From the 23th of December to the Ist of Janu
ary, th? sun was seldom, if ever, seen. The clouds ]
hung, like a mighty pavilion, iu the horizon and \
the Heavens weeped copious tears. But the last j
few days have been bright and beautiful. The
Sun rejoices in its splendor and brilliancy and
the New Year is welcomed with as much joy as,
the bride and bride-groom. Perhaps this auspic
ious season is typical, of tho success and prosperity
which is to follow tho wise, tho honest and just
during the present year.
I. 0. 0. F.
The following gentlemen have bcon elected and
were installed last night officers of tho I. 0. 0. F.
Dr. Samuel A. Billing, N. G.
Mr. James Girducr, R. S.
Mr. Jno. A. Frazier, Permanent Sec’y.
Mr. J. A. Bradford, Treasurer.
The O ld Fellows have awarded a medal to the
latter gentlemen for meritorious services and
faithful performance of duty.
Sales To-day.
Tho Ist Tuesday in January is the great day
for sales. At tho Market House to-day there will
be a gathering of all those persons, who desire to
purchase or biro negroes. By a reference to our
advertising columns the reader may purchance
see something that will be of interest to him.
Hamilton Mall.
Our readers in Hamilton, Harris county Ga.,
have not read the “Times,” tiiey sav, during
Christmas. Hereafter the mail boy will make his
tri-weekly visit as heretofore to this delightful 1
village. He has had his Christmas frolic and is
ready to go to work.
Drowned.
Two young negroes, we understand, were
drowned Saturday, January Ist, while crossing
Tehee Creek, Russell eo. Alabama, with a team of
oxen. There were four in the cart—the father
and Mother of those lost, were saved. The oxen
also were drowned. We have not heard yet to
whom the negroes belonged.
Destructive Fire ix Gi.y.nx County. —We
earn, from a private letter, that Mr. Hugh Frazer
Grant, a large rice planter of Glynn county, was
awaked about 3 o’clock iu the morning of the Hath
inst. by an alarm of lire, which had accidently
broke out on his premises. There being no means
at hand to reduce the flames, they extended their
ravages until his saw mill, grist mill, threshing
machine, barn and storing barn, with 7,000 bush
els of his best rice, were entirely consumed. One
stack was also consumed, but the remainder were
saved by the untiring exertions of his slaves. A
strong north-cast wind was prevailing at the time,
the strength of which may be inferred front the
fact that his dwelling, some four hundred yards
distant, caught in several places from tho burning
shingels driven from the seat of conflagration.
Mr. Grant estimates his loss at $15,000, besides
the expense of putting up new machinery, buil
dings, <Ssc., and the delay in threshing the remain
der of his crop until the work shall he perfected.
