THE DAILY TIMES.
THE CITY.
Theatre
We would remind our readers that Miss Logan’s
engagement in this place ia drawing to a close)
and that after to-night, but two more opportuni
ties will be offered them to witness her thrilling
and artistic impersonations of the Tragic Muse.
To-night she appears in a piece which has nev
er been presented upon our boards, and in which
she has met the moat unbounded success, viz :
Adelgitha, and we hope to see the house crowded
with her old and new friends. So far the elements
have seemed to conspire with those who have ad
miringly watohed through long years, her strug
gles and her triumphs, to frown down her deter
mination now in the very maturity of her powers
and the zenith of her reputation, to retire from a
position which, even from the long list of promis
ing American debutantes, no name gives promise
of filling in the future ; but for the memories of
past pleasures afforded by her study and talents,
and in justice to one who has contributed largely
to adorn and exalt the Drama as a profession in
America, we trust that she may receive, as she
justly deserves from her friends here, a generous
farewell as she steps from the magic circle of the
stage into the quieter and more peaceful scenes of
private life.
As Evadne and Pauline, she has been well sup
ported by the company of Messrs. Crisp
among whom we notice two new and worthy can
didates for popular favor, Miss Hafferning and
Mr. Morton.
In the latter we recognize a versatile and ac
complished actor, and a most agreeable substitute
or the gentleman who preceded him in the same
part3in this place.
Os the other members of the corps we have
spoken before, suffice it to say now, that they ail
exhibit a most careful and praiseworthy desire to
pleaso the most capricious public.
Music.—professor Clarke, has now arrived,
and is prepared to give instruction in vocal and
instrumental music. Persons desiring his servi
ces, can ascertain further particulars by refer
ence to his advertisement.
Can the South Fuse with Abolition!
We call attention to the following extracts
from Helper’s insurrectionary volume, published,
endorsed, and circulated by the black republican
leaders, including sixty-eight members of Con
gress :
“ * * * * Freemen of the’
North ! we earnestly entreat you to think of these
things. Hitherto, as mere free-soilers, you have
approached but half way to the line of your duty.
Now, for your own sakes, and for ours, and tfoT
the purpose of perpetuating this great Republic,
which your fathers and oar fathers founded in
septennial streams of blood, we ask you, in all
seriousness, to organize yourselves as one man
under the banners of liberty, and to aid us in ex
terminating slavery, which is the only thing that
militates against our complete aggrandizement as
a nation. In this extraordinary crisis of affairs,
no man can be a true patriot without first becom
ing an abolitionist
********
‘‘Once and forever, at least so far as this coun
try is concerned, the infernal question es slavery
must be disposed of ; a speedy and absolute abol
ishment of the whole system is the true policy
of the South; and this ia the policy which we
propose to pursue.”
***..***•
“Do not reserve the strength of your arms un
til you shall hare been rendered powerless to
strike ; the present is the proper time for action ;
under all the circumstances, apathy or indiffer
ence is a crime. First ascertain, as nearly as you
oan, the precise nature and e-rtant of your duty,
and then, without a moment’s delay, perform it
in good faith.”
%**** * * * *
“Henceforth, sirs, we are demandants, not sup
pliants. We demand our rights, nothing more,
nothing less. It is for you to decide whether we
are to have justice peaceably or by Violescs;
for, whatever consequences may follow, we arc de
termined to have it one way or the other.”
These extracts alone, independent of many oth
er sentiments of a like character expressed in
this infamous publication, turnish the most con
clusive proof that its object was to overthrow
slavery in the South by lebellion and servile in
surrection. Indeed, it expressly declares that
the overthrow of slavery is to be accomplished,
if necessary, “by violence,” “whatever consequen
ces, may follow.” What is this but the prelude
to the insurrection at Harper’s Ferry,—the en
dorsement and circulation of this work commen
cing at New York last spring, and the insurrec
tion occurring at Harper’s Ferry but a few
mouths afterwards ! Washington Constitution.

Scorbutic diseases are the parent stock
from which arises a large proportion of the
fatal maladies that afflict mankind. They are as
it were a species of potatoe rot in the human
constitution, which undermines and corrupts all
the sources of its vitality and hastens decay.—
Tney are the germ from which springs Consump
tion, Rheumatism, Heart disease, Liver Com
plaints, and Eruptive Diseases which will be re
cognized among those most fatal and destructive
to the races of men. So dreadful are its conse
quences to human life, that it is hardly possible
to over estimate the importance of an actual, re
liable remdy, that can sweep out this scrofulous
combination. We know then we shall proclaim
welcome news to our readers, of one from such a
quarter as will leave little doubt of its efficacy—
and still more welcome, when we assure them,
that it really does accomplish the end desired.—
We mean Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, and it is cer
tainly worthy the attention of those who are af
flicted with Sorofula or Scrofulous complaints.—
