THE DAILY TIMES.
THE CITY.
Theatre
The intense cold of Wednesday evening doubt
less deterred many who desired to do so, from
witnessing Romeo and Juliet. There was, how
ever, a goodly representation of drama loving
people, the larger portion of whom, we are pleas
ed to say, were ladies. The rebuke thus admin
istered to the “sterner sex” we hope will not be
without its proper effect upon our “gallants,” for
if the delicate creatures can brave a temperature
below the freezing point to witness the wooings of
lovers, they should certainly be supported and at
tended by the “Lords of creation.”
It is only justice to say of Miss Logan’s Juliet,
that her thrilling and impassioned delineation of
the loved and loving girl was sufficient tomakeall
those of her auditory, not too old to remember
the “trying days of youth,” think ..hat the balmy
airs of May rather than the icy breath of Decem
ber reigned without. Indeed, we might have
been belied into the pleasing delusion had not the
huge fan of the old nurse continually reminded
us of the chilling blast we were compelled to face
on our way to the Theatre.
The other characters in the play were well
cast and equally well played, in fact, the very
best performance as a whole, that we have yet
had from the company. The Mercutio of Mr
Taylor especially pleased us, displaying, as it did
a nicer conception of the character and a more,
spirited rendering of it than wo expected to see.
The comic parts in the after piece were as usu
al “done up” in capital style by Miss Williams
and Mr. Sheldon.
To-night Miss Logan takes her benefit in the
character of Bianca, in the tragedy of Fazio, a
character so well suited to her style and so deep
ly interesting in all its details, as cannot fail to
draw a fine house.
The Weather.
The weather has suddenly changed and is pro
pitious for meat killing. The blue noses and red
ears are a sufficient indication of the chilly sea
son. Our ccats and shaVls are brought into re
quisition and are comfortable.
North’s Circus Troupe-
This Company are still detained in our City by
legal process, and are performing nightly for the
benefit of the indigent employees of the concern.
They claim the sympathy of the community.
Sanford's Opera Troupe.
This Troupe of Minstrels advertise to be in our
city on Monday evening next. They are said
to possess great versatility of musical talent, and
draw fine houses.
New Advertisements.
Howell fc Johnson are advertising a great
variety of good things. Let all read, ponder and
purchase. This firm study to please.
Read the advertisement of R. M. Aldworth—
He has much iron pipe, and of tin ware, sheet
iron, stoves, and hardware a “good eel.”
We invite the attention of our readers to the
advertisement of Ellis & Livingston, of the sale
on Saturday next, of a splendid lot of furniture,
DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD
Columbus, Dec. 9.
The receipts on yesterday amounted to 692
bales, and the sales to 426 “bales. The demand
was quite active, although the sales were effected
at our former prices. There is a tendency to ads
vance, even in the face of European accounts,
showing at least a depressed market.

JB®**Scorbutic diseases are the parent sioek
from which arises a large proportion of the
fatal maladies that afflict mankind. They areas ;
it were a species of potatoe rot in the human
constitution, which undermines and corrupts all
the sources of its vitality and hastens decay.—
They are the germ from which springs Consump
tion, Rheumatism, Heart disease, Liver Lorn
plaints, and Eruptive Diseases which will be re
cognized among those most fatal and destructive
to the races of men. So dreadful are its conse
quences to human life, that it is hardly possible
to over estimate the importance of an actual, re
liable remdy, that can sweep out this scrofulous
combination. We know then we shall proclaim
welcome news to our readers, of one from such a
quarter as will leave little doubt of its efficacy—•
and still more welcome, when we assure them,
that it really does accomplish the end desired.—
We mean Aver s Sarsaparilla, and it is cer
tainly worthy the attention of those who are af
flicted with Scrofula or Scrofulous complaints.—
