mother was a Virginia ludy. llult, by maiden

Captain iu the old Virginia line. You may be
sure l feel proud of my ancestry. My parents
are not rich, and I thought I would moke a few

dispot-e of thorn by sale, in order to buy some
rather expensive books I coveted. But none
could [ sell, though one of my little brother*
tried hard to do so in JS'evv York.
Now, what better could I do with them than
to seal them to you as a present? Won’t you
aooept them ? i hope you will If you give
them away to any > f your young soldiers, say
that too l ttia N »rtheru girl who made them, in

brave deeds at the battle of Buena Vista she has

Groat Reduction in Prices of
GROVER BAKER’S
fAHILI SIWIKG MACHINES,
I am authorized to sell these Machines at a re
duction on former prices of from 10 to 15
per cent.; according to style of pattern.
All Machines warranted.
The Grover & Biker Company is one ofthe oldest
an most successful of the originators and directors
of the business. It entered the Held at an early day,
when Sewing Machines w ere almost in their firststa
ges—when their inanuficture was more ot an experi
ment than an thingelse Step by s;ep it has progres
sed in the development of the trade am the perfect
ing of its Machines; taking advantage of ail posi*
ble improvements in the make, adaptation and modi
fication of the macliim ry, it has enjoyed the exclu
sive ofthe inventive genius of one person of
theflrm(Mr William O. Grover) bv which it has been
placed in possession of privileges and patents that
have givenita Machines peculiar andexclusive excel
lencies.
The mechanism oftha B-iker Machine is
exceedingly simple, durable and easily understood by
any person old or young; there ia nothing in its man
agement that the simplest mind may not crasp and
it is merely a question oi time and inemor. with some
—most ladies will learn at once showing, while oth
ers will require two or three lessons; trequentiy we
see little Misses, only ten years of age, op rating the
Machine on straight seams without a.-eistanee.
Families who are about to purchase, are repectful
ly invited to call and examine for themselves, we
take the liberty < fsaying. it is better for y«u torur
chase of a b»cal responsible Agent, than from Ped
dlers who are traveling through the country with
cheap Sewing Machines.
