jj£»-Tbe Merobants nnd citizen* generally of
tbe city are requested to meet at Temperance
Hall ibis Friday evening at 7 o’clock, to as
aUt in effecting a permanent organization of a
Bonrd of Trade, an ito consider such other mat
ters as may be brought before the meeting.
By reque D. B. THOMPSON, Mayor.
Tub Meeti'G To-Night. —Oar Merchants
a nd citizens generally w.ll bear in tmnd tbe call
of his honor the Mayor for a meeting to-night,
to take into consideration tbo mercantile intcr
#jtaof the city.
“Appropriate Donation.
A committee from Company I*., of the fcouth-
Omrd, soliciting contributions for their equip
ornt from our citiions yesterday, applied to Mr.
J. \Y. Pease, at his book-store, who presented
them with a handsome copy of the Sacred Vol
ume. I > was a well timed gift, and the company
will find frequent occasion in camp-life for iii eg
it with profit.
[Coinuiu aicated]
Mtaara. lllitora: —T am gl id to 4?.0 that some
ono has opened the ball in reference to the
equipping the military Companies of this city.—
I fully endorse every word of “Peuco Establish
ment's” couirauni ;atiou in your issue of yester
day. From present indications it is highly prob
able that three companies will he called into ser
vice Lorn this city. Now ought nut the citizens
come forward and contribute liberally to the
equipment of these companies? Tnero is, as sta
ted by “Peace Establishment,” many young men
in tiicac companies uuablo to equip themsedvos.
The citizens ought to feci a great interest in this
m itfer. These young men are going to fight for
you and your children. Will you allow them to
go off from home unprepared for efficient service?
I do not believe you will, hut believe \ ou will do
as South Carolina did when her soldiers were
leaving for Mexico, to-wit: come forward and
contribute freely and largely.
SOLDIER.
To "Peace Establishment."
Nothing would be belter or better timed than
your remarks in yesterday’s Times, eo far as
they go. You point out to U3 our duty, but you
should have gene a little further and showed us
more particularly the hoio to do it. I move, you,
sir, that a Committee he raised to recoive sub
scriptions to this cause, through whom the same
may be expended under advisement of the differ
ent Captains. The meeting to night will be a
proper tiino and place to ra so this committee,
and his h< cor the Mayor, a very proper Chair
man of it.
ANOTHER P. E.
Great Fuat of Southern Newspaper En
terprise.—The New Orleans Deha, of Thursday
last, presented its readers with the Permanent
Constitution of the Confederate States, telegraph
ed in full from Montgomery. This is, probably,
the greatest feat of newspaper enterprise jet
achieved in the South. The Delta was the only
paper in New Orleans that received this impor
tant document over the wires.
she Broad Baits of the Confederact.—
Wo protest against tbe word “stripes,” asap
plied to the btoad bars of tho flag of our Con
federacy The word is quite approptiateas ap
plied to the Yankee ensign or a barber’s pole;
but it does no correctly describe the red and
white divisions of the flig of the Confederate
States. The word is bars as we have removed
from under tho stiipes.
As we speak of the flag, we may mention
that the Committee on Flags caused the Secre
tary «>f Congress to order one from Mobile, for
tho C ipitol, which will probably arrive to-day.
It is lib feet long by IS in width; and as the
Congress has adjourned till May, will probably
bo t urned over temporarily to the War Depart
ment. It was manufactured under the direction
of of Maj: G. B. Ciiihcral.— j\lont. Mail.
Society for the P uucha.se of Vbnktia.—The
Sicilians have just organized a society for the
purchase of Veuetia, ami elected Garibaldi as its
President. In a very eloquently written address,
the founders of this society make a warm appeal
to the patriotic feelings of the Italians, and an
nounce that societies of a similar character
will b 9 established in all parts of Italy. When
the amount subscribed is equivalent to the
estimated value of Vent tin, it will be offered to
Austria; if she refuses to accept it, it will be ap
plied to the raising and equippuge of an army for
the conquest of that province.
Holloway's Pills. —Female Complaints—
No other medicines of the day possess the prop
erty of restraining those inordinate flows inci
dental to the gentler sex, and which are the sad
results of nervous debility or enfeebled constitu
tion. Thousands of females in America owe their
existence and the actual enjoyment of health to
the use of these celebrated remedies. Their na
ture is so simple that they may bo taken by the
most delicate female with tha utmost freedom
