anew and brilliant paper, with the above title,
which has been adopted after mature reflection; and
it will be laid before the public with no intention to
adopt sectional views or extreme partizan opinion;
but simply to afford our Southern friends and North
ern sympathizers a liberal vehicle for the expression
oftheir views and opinions. We will dissect with
an unsparing hand, the horrible state of negro
society at the North, and the consequent degen
eration of a portion of the white, thus riviting
upon the heads of Northern slanderers, the wide
spread libel, that a state of degraded immorality
alone exists at the South, on account of the pres
ence of an inferior race.
We w'ill exhibit the hollow hypocrisy of tb;* would
be-abetters of abolition in the Northern and Eastern
sections of the country, and prove by statistics that
the opinion formed ot the immorality of a mixed
society of colors in our Southern .regions is suggest
ed in the minds of the moralist by the striking truths
brought to their notice here.
We will discuss the general topics of the day with
freedom and without fear, giving a liberal attention
to the literary and artisiic affairs of this and other
countries. In fine, we intend to‘make our Palmetto
a standard newspaper, as its prototype is the stand
ard of a free and gallant people.
We shall print 50,000 copies of our first number.
