rue MILY TIMES.
City Official Journal.
On FcßLorcn. —Several members of tho Co
lumbus Guards aro on a visit to their friends in
this city, having been allowed this privile.c pre
vious to leaving for Virginia. We aro glad to
see them in such tine health and feather, and to
learn that the whole company has been compara
tively exempt from the sickness which has pre
vailed in so large a portion of Col. £etnmc3’
Regiment. But a few weeks mere and they will
remove to Virginia where good fighting, good
water and a bracing atmosphero will relieve this
line command of all its present ailments.
uicut. Shingler, of the City Light Guards, is. !
also hero on a short visit. His appearance is a !
sufficient proof of the good treatment our boys
have received at the hands of their Virginia
neighbors. He represents the Light Guards to be
in excellent health and perfectly in love with the
service.
The Smmes CnarJs.
We learn that this Company, Capt. Shepherd,
have received positive orders to leave for Vir
ginia on the 20th inst., when they will take their
place in the 2d lteiment, G. V. The company
has gone into camp at “Camp Linwooil” near
the residence of A C. Flewellen, and is rapidly
receiving accessions to Us roll.
The munificent donation by Mrs. Comer, of
i 100 worth of flannel cloth—fin article of which
the supply i3 by no means excessive—has fur
nished tho Company with n very necessary por
tion of its outflt and lightened the burden upon
Capt. Shepherd and bis patriotic coadjutors, who
are determined that no expense or pains shall be
pared to equip tho Company in the most com
plete manner. Wo cannot imagine an excuse for
a young man; who desires to serve his country in
the field, in netjoining the “Semmes Guards.”
Forty thousand dollars has been paid in
to the State Treasury as the earnings of tho West
ern and Atlantic Railroad for the past month—
• Time.
Vico President Stephens of the Confederate
: fates was reported dead by the Northern tele
graph day before yesterday, and tho submis
sionlsts hereabouts tried to shed a few lachry
mose tears over his past virtues, untimely end,
Ac., winding up with the unanimous verdict
that the*South had lost its best man. The dis
patches yesterday, state that he had addressed a
meeting of his fellow citizens in Warrenton, Ga.
on Monday, resulting in theirvoting a subscrip
tion of four thousand bales of cotton for the
prosecution of the war. That is equal to a quar
ter of million of dollars; a good round sum for
one small town to subscribe. Mr. Stephens is
truly a good and great man. and not quite dead
yet.—[Louisville Courier.
A fat office. —-Probably about the best of
tioe in tho United States, about this time. (says
the Chicago Tribune) is that ot Auditor Deblois,
of Illinois. Presuming that all the Ranks in
the State aro wound up by tho process of deliver
ing bonds to the holders of notes, he will bo en
titled to not less than SBO,OOO as fees. If tho
fiamo banks aro wound up by public sale of the
bonds in New York.be will be then entitled to
not less than $120,000.
Regiments for Service in Florida. —It will
be remembered that after steps had been taken
to mise two thousand volunteers, to be held in
readiness to respond to calls from the Confeder
ate States, the Exocutivo wa3 informed that one
regiment only of the number would be
and that for service in Florida. Not deeming
that this would answer tho emergency. Gov.
Perry made application for two regiments for
State service, and wo have the pleasure to an
nounce that this application has been successful.
Two regiments aro to be received for homo ser
vice instead of one, and it is earnestly to be
hoped that the companies will soon be ready for
the mustering officer. Thisforco, properly dis
tributed along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, will
nerve to protect the State from any ordinary raid
which the enemy may attempt.— Tallahassee

thefirm(Mr. William O. Grover) by which it has been
placed in possession of privileges and patents that
have givenits Machines peculiar andexclustve excel

The mechanism ofthe B-vker Machiue is
exceedingly simple, dura ole and easily understood by
any person old ot young; there is nothing in its man
agement that the simplest mind may not grasp, and
it is merely a question ot time and memorv with some

see little Misses, only ten years of age, opt rating the
Machine on straight seams without assistance.
Families who are about to purchase, are repectful
