Bozeman, Mayor pro tem., Aids. Bostick, Douglas, Hazleton, Johnson, Ligon, and Wright. Absent —Aids. Bivins, Croft, Peabody, Spear, and Stein On reading the minutes of last meeting Aid. Johnson moved to reconsider so much of the same as regards a resolution passed authorizing the Treasurer to issue executions against ail defaulting tax payers on and after the first Oc tober. Which was agreed to. Aid. Johnson moved to extend the time of is suing execut'ons until the first of November. Which was agreed to. The minutes of last meeting were then con firmed. By Aid. Hazleton — We, the undersigned, Street Committee, beg leave to make the following report: We have examined all the streets in the city and find them in fine condition, wi'h only a few exceptions. Sorao of the bridges we find in had condition; the one near the P. 0., also the group of bridges near the Methodist parsonage. The want of lumber being the cause, (the lum ber contractor having failed to furnish the city according to contract.) Too much praise can not he bostowed upon'our worthy and efficient Deputy Marshal for the manner in which he has kept the streets. We ordered the Deputy Marshal to straighten the ditch beginning at, a culvert on the O. A W. P. Railroad and running near the Asylum, and to clean out said ditch below. Also instruc ted him to repair the bridges so soon as lumber can be procured. HAZLETON, ) BOSTICK, Corn. LIGON, j Which was received. By Aid. Johnson —Resolved that the amenda tory Resolutions gpassei 17th June last, pre scribing the form of oath to be taken by holders of coupons of City Bonds, that the date of said oath be changed from 15th April to 21st May, to conform to the law of the Confederate States on similar subjects. Which was agreed to. By Aid. Johnson—Resolved, That the Treas urer be instructed to deduct payment for lumber from the contractor with the City, until all ex tra pay for lumber is settled, as lie has failed to furnish the City with lumber as per con tract. An efficient corps of seven ladies and gentle men will comprise the Faculty, representing, as far as practicable, every protestant denomination of Christians, * This Institution appeals to the patriot : sth and benevolence, as well as interest, of the Southern public, for its support. The proceeds, beyond current expenses, for the next Collegiate year, will be tendered by the President to the Treasury of the Confederate States. Orphans of deceased, and daughters of indi gent Masons, will, as heretofore, continue to re ceive gratuitous tuition. Cheapness to patrons and thoroughness to pu pils, are aimed at in the system proposed to be pursued. No pairs or expense will bo spared to secure the best talent lor the various Departments, to bo excl uaive/y selected from among Southerners. A Preparatory Department is attached to the College, where particular attention wdl be given to laying well the foundations of education, as absolutely necessary to further successful ad vancement. The usetul, the practical, and the ornamental, will be sought to be blended and developed thr-'ughout the whole regimoof the Institution. The moral and roligious culture of pupils will be scrupulously kept in view. French and Spanish will be taught by a lady perfectly conversant with both ti ese languages. The Musical Department will be taught by a gentl man, assisted by an accomglished lady, both possessing experience and genius to an em inent degree, and occupying fine social posi tions. The late President resigning to attend to pri vate affairs, united with the roiired Vice-Presi dent and the Trustees in commending the Insti tution, under its present direction, to the public confidence. The President is honored with most compli mentary credentials from Bishop G. F. Pierce, Hons. Joseph H. Lumpkin, T. R. R. Cobb, and Col. W. H. Jackson, President of the Board ts Trustees of Mercer University. Covington, the location of the College, is pleas ant and healthy.
