City Official Journal.
The City Election.
Our city election tnkea place 10-morrow, and
in these remarkable dull and hard times, bids
fair to be a feature of interest. Able tickets for
ill departments of the city government are in
the held. The aspirants for the Mayoralty
have i ecu reduced to two, Dr. Bozeman and Col.
Dillard —the election of either of whom would
retieot credit on the city.
There are several candidates for Marshal and
Deputy Marshal; the held has been thoroughly
canvaesed, and our citizens will doubtless make
the best choice.
There are sundry candidates for Sexton, and
the one receiving the most votes will undoubt
edly be elected.
Two able tickets for Aldermen have been pre
sented, and the interests of the city will not suf
fer detriment in the hands of either.
And lastly we would not forget the race for
the Council Clerkship between the present in
cumbent and our faithful arid tried employee,
Mr. T. J. Jackson. He will work well in any
any kiud of harness, and if the children are per
mitted to speak, is bound to succeed.
Strainer Chewala.
This fast running boat, under command of
Cftpt. James W. Young, will'leave for Apalach
icola and intermediate landings this af ernoon
at three o’clock.
Professor Lowe’s balloon “Constitution" was
shipped from Washington for Beaufort, S. O.ou
the afternoon of the 26th ult.
Messrs. Editors—At the earnest solicitation
of many friends, I have consented to become a
candidate for Mayor, at the ensuing election. 1
have not sought the office, but if" my friends
think proper to confer it. upon me, I shall eou
vider it no slight token of their generous conti -
dunce, and will endeavor to discharge the du
ties incumbent upon me with diligence and
taithlulness. I shall be actuated by no other
purpose than the advancement of every inter
est of our city, and the maintenance of those
whose husbands and fathers have left their fami
lies and homes, and have gone fortK in defense
of our dearest rights, our altars and our firesides.
Very respectfully,
F. W. DILLARD.
