Personal. Our immediate Representative
in the Provisional Congress, Hon. Martin J.
Crawford, reached home on Saturday. We
learn trom him that a recess of the Congress
was contemplated when he left Richmond, to
commence on the day above named, and to
continue till next Monday. W e are glad to
dud Mr Crawford in the continued enjoyment
0 f good health.
The New Presbyterian Church.
We are glad to observe that the finishing
touches are now being applied to this magnifi
cent church edifice, and learn that it will proba
bly be ready for dedication on the first Sabbath
in January. We hesitate not to say that this
church will vie favorably with any in the Con
federacy in architectural design and beauty of
proportion, and speaks well for the good taste
ttD d liberality of the denomination for whieh 4
is intended. It has been in course of erection
for two years and a half, and is one of the fruits
of the gracious revival of 1858. Its tall spire
stands out in bold relief among the steeples of
Columbus, and points heavenward, as if to ad
monish the worshippers who may assemble with
in the church in future generations, that the
object of their aspiritiona is above the grovelling
vanities of earth. We trust “holiness to the
Lord" may be .nscribed upon its walls, and that
the membership may carry out the true prinoi
pies of Christianity in their lives, ever remem
bering that God delighteth not in costly extern
als, butmaketh his abode with the humble and
contrite. _
is stated that the War Department at

General Polk to revoke his order forbidding the
importation of grain from Kentucky.
