£i)e CUiwctik- ~— —~ • ’ MARIETTA. - - - - APRIL 12. Reading Matter on every Page. Mjutary "KTovemexts. —On Saturday In**, the JlcDoimld Guaids. numbering some 30 lank and file, paid a visit t» Kingston, to par ticipate in a grand military demonstration ad vertised for that day. Companies, wo under stand, were present from Rome, Ringgold, Kingston, Cmtersvilie and Marietta. Every* tiling passed <ll pleasantly, and a delightful day was spent. _ Saw thk Calves. —'Uns morning we saw the cow of Mr. I*. S. Anderson, whose prolific yield we noticed recently. She bad been brought in on Saturday fr m his plantation, with her three j heifer calves, and tuw literally lives “in clo ver up to her eyes." The three little heifers nre lively, frisk, and “as like as two peas,” while the mother of ttiis urttsual yield presents n healthy, tinning appearance. If Dy should not conclude to send her on to Barnum, oi consign her to XX ood, as it curiosity, wo expect ; nothing else but be will present us the four animals as a rewrrd for our editorial industry- Such an infliction might be borne, if our coun try subscribers could only be induced to fur. nish us sufficient fodder to keep them from starving. 83>..,1t lias been ascertained that a larger num her of United States vessels are now afloat than for the last twenty years. Other vessesl may be fitted out in three or four weeks. There is' however, a deficiency of lieutenants, midship men, masters, an 1 medical officers, as well as | .i amen—the law limiting the last named to I 8,500 men. A Homespun Party.-—Col. Donald, of Leake , county, recently gave a novel party to the I young people of his neighborhood. The tickets ; sent to each young lady required that she should come dressed in Mississippi manufactnr cd apparel,in the manufacture of which she in some way assist. The young gentlemen were also required to dress in the manufacture I of Mississippi, made in Leake and Attala. [Mississippian. The implacable old sinner, Senator Trum bull, in referring to the Southern Republic, said: we must not forget the old proverb that even every frog has his day.'' Nor do we forget the other one that every (fog lias his. For Secession.—The Cincinnati Cowozicr rial says the Catholic and Hebrew papers of that city favor secession. The last issue of the Israelite says: “With every passing day we get more and more convinced that the Secessionists arc right. New York, April 5. —The steamers Andes nnd Atlantic have been chartered, it is said, j to carry troop-to the South. It is said that several other vessels have been chartered for ' the same purpose. i The steamer Powhattan takes 400 of the 2700 troops in ami about New York. NAVAL MOVEMENTS AT BOSTON. Boston Mass. April 6.—Great activity pre vails in the Navy Yard at Charlestown. Eight hundred arc employed there. The Bainbridge is now ready for sea, and , her crow arc awaiting orders. The Minnesota, Mississippi, and Colorado are ready for sea. Capt. Stringham, 17. S. N.. is expected to arrive here next week. J. Wilkes Booth, a brother of Edwin, is now playing in Albany, N, Y, where he is hignly ! thought of. His voice, manner and form re- | mind one quite forcibly of Edwin, and in those j parts in which the latter excels lie is said to be quite successful. lie is quite young and i will not venture to play in New York until | confident of success. William L. Yancey has received from the i fair hands of his numerous lady friends in j Montgomery, a splendid gold mounted cane and a boqnei of rare flowers, in token of their appreciation of the untiring zeal and self sac tifieing labor which have distinguished Lis patriotism in behalf of Southern independence and domestic peace and quiet. Hanging the SecussioniMs. Mr Horace Creeley made a speech on Thurs day evening, before the Central Republican Chib of this city, in which he is quite fierce for hanging the secessionists. The war-like Hor ace thus philosophises : “The question at the present time, then, was ' Union or no Union. Now, foi one. he believed there were things of more importance than the Uni on. Truth was higher than the Union ; so Was justice. The only Union worth preserving was that which submiited to a constitutional administration of the Government and the en forcement of the la*-. As for compromise, it •was not thought of on the platfoim of the Se ct s?ioni.-ts. Every man engaged in that move ment deserves to be hung. lie might, perhaps, Consent to so far compromise as to hang half of them. [Laughter and applause.’’] This reminds us that we have recently’ receiv ed a rope fr >m an enthusiastic secessionist, with which he wants the New Yorkers to hang Greeley. We took occasion to mildly expostu late with him, and assure him that he had better keep it for Seward, as he was the most cautious, discreet, and therefore the most dan gerous enemy the South had. As for our “am iable neighbor’’ who recommends the “arming of slaves,” and the free negroes of the North, and w’jo would install the “irrepressible con flict" by an appeal to arms, there is not the slightest danger of such enemies. If they only had the temerity to put their policy into prac tice, .Jefferson Davis would be in Washington in less than thirty days, and Lhtg in Canada or Nova Scotia. The open enemies ot the supre macy 'if tho white race have never been the most dangerous ones. Garrison, Phillips, Gd ciiiigs A Co., are infinitely b'ss to be feared by the South and by all white men, than Sewuid, Carncron, Blair, and C irwiti. It is only neecs baryfirthe Republicans to once show their cloven feet, and the negro delusion would ex plode like a magazine touched with a live coal. The only danger is that Seward will cover it up with his “ glittering generalities,” and grad ually demoralize the South, as a Biitish aiiti slavcry policy has the North, under false pre —.V. .Y Day Bo'j'r. - I’-itli factions u! the Bio iklyn (N. Scrofula, or King’s,Evil, is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in (he circulation, it pervades tho whole body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is lhere one which it may not destroy. The scrofu lous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, disordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing Vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection, What ever be its origin, it is hereditary’ in tho constitu tion, descending “ from parents to children unto tho third and fourth generation indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, “ I will visit tho iniquities of the fathers upon their children.” Its cllects commence by deposition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tuber cles ; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul Corruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitutions not only suffer from scrofulous complaints, but they’ have far less power to withstand the attacks of other diseases; con sequently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, arc still ren dered fatal by this taint in the system. Most of the consumption which decimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamina tion ; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or arc aggravated by’ the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous; their persons are invaded by this lurking infection, nnd their health is undermined by it. To cleanse it from the system we must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and invigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply’ in AYER’S Compound Extract of the most effectual remedy’ which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where pre vailing and fatal malady. It is combined from the most active remedials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system front its destructive consequences. Hence it should be employed fbf the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affections which arise from it, such as Eruptive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony’s Fire, Hose, or Erysipelas, Pimples, Pustules, Blotches, Blains and Boils, Tumors, Tetter and Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphilitic and Mercurial Diseases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, DmitiTY, and, indeed, all Complaints arising from Vitiated or Impure Blood. The popular belief in ‘ ‘ impurity of the blood ” is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, Without which sound health is impossible in con taminated constitutions. Ayer’s Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC, are so composed the.t disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them. Their pen etrating properties search, and cleanse, end invigorate every portion of the human organism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the every-day complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the follow ing complaints: Costireness, Heartburn, Headache, arising from disordered stomach, Nausea, indigestion, Pain tn and Morbid Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appetite, Jaundice, and other kindred com plaints, arising from a low state of the body or Obstruc tion of its functions. Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, FOR THE RAPID CURE OF Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consumption, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in ad vanced stages of the disease. So wide is the field Os its usefulness ahd so ntimCtOtlS are the cases of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds in persons publicly known, who have been restored from alarming and even desperate dis eases of the lungs by its use. AVhcn once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to escape observation, nnd where its virtues arc known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous affections of the pulmonary organs that arc incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust .ur°n the community have failed and been discarded, this had gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the alllicted they can never forget, and produced cures too numerous ahd too remarkable to be forgotten. .iiion u x DR. HOSTETTER’S STOMACHJITTERS. The proprietors nnd mannfaefnrers of ITOS TETTEB’S CEI.EBBATED STOMACH BIT TEIIS can nppcnl with perfect confidence tq physicians and citizens generally of the United States, because the Article has attained arepu tation heretofore unknbwn. A few facts upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of Hostetter’s Stomach Bit ters for tlid Inst year amounted to oyer a half-' hiilliori bottles, and from its manifest steady increase in times past, it is evident, that during the coming year tlie consumption will reach near one million bottles. This immense amount could never have been sold but. for the rare medicinal properties contained in the prepara tion, nnd (lie sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of the country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but nre ready nt all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in nil cases of stomachic derangements' nnd the diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popularity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in ltic way of trum peting the qualities of the Bitters, but n solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is' destined to bo ns enduring ns time itself. hosteller's Stomach Bitters have proved n Godsend to regions where fever nnd nguo nnd various other bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds.
