A general court-martial has been ap pointed to meet at Camp Haskell today t •try several officers who have had charges preferred against them. Following is the list of officers:' Headquarters First Division First Army Corps, Macon, Georgia, November 30, 1898. —Special orders No. 15. —Par. 2. A general court martial is hereby appointed to meet at Camp Haskell, Ga., at 10 a. m., Decem ber 5, 1898, or -as soon thereafter as prac ticable for the trial of such persons as may be properly brought before it. Thomas V. Turney. Tenth United States volunteer infantry. 13. Capt. A. W. Brandt, Seventh United States volunteer infantry. Capt. Lyle F. Bellinger, Third United States Engineers, judge advocate. By coralhand of Major General Bates, <J. S. V. W. M. WRIGHT, Captain, and Assistant Adjutant Geneial Volunteers. Official: W. M. WRIGHT. Captain and Assistant Adjutant General (Volunteers. It can be even from the list of officers that there are several negro officers on the court. The main case that is to come up ■before the court is that of Captain 'Har graves, the negro who killed the private soldiers in Knoxville just before coming to Macon He will not be tried on that charge, however. The charges against him are for conduct unbecoming 'an officer and a gentleman and of defying the provost guard in Knox viile. It is said that he in company with vet al other officers and privates got. on a spree while in Knoxville and attempted to take the town. The court went into session this morning and it will probabl.V Hake them a week to complete their work. The wind storm early Sunday morning 'blew down many of the tents in all of the camps and The men had to spend the re mainder of 'the night in t'he cold. All of 4he tents have not been supplied with tent stoves and last night many of the soldiers built up large fires and remained around 'them ail night. The Krag-Jorgenson rifles have been is sued to all the troops iiow stationed at Macon. The men are all proud of the new guns and are kinging for the time >to come when they will have an oppor headquarters Offices are now permanently fixed. The corps headquarters 'are in the Telegraph building and the division head quarterfl are in the Washington block, over Sol Hoge’s drug store. The brigade headquarters are established at each of the camps. The 'inspection yesterady morning had to be done away with on account of the inclement weather. Sunday morning is always the regular inspection day by the brigade commander, but it was raining and everything in such bad shape that .the inspection was postponed until next Sunday. The concert that was to have been given by the Third Engineers’ band had to be postponed on account of the weather. The men in the camps spent a very uncomfort able day. Everything was wet and cold and the men had no way of keeping warm ( xcept by building fires and standing by them. A subscription has been taken up among the members of the Third Engineers to purchase a large gospel tent. A large sum of money has been subscribed and the tent will be put up at an ■early date. Tlje prisoners who are now confined in the provost guard’house will be tried in a few days by court martial. Some of the men have been in confinement for over ten days without a trial and they are be ginning to make kicks. Much interest is now centered in the court manials that are in session at th two camps. 'Many of the privates have b. en brought before the court that has been in session at Camp Fornance. The privates 'generally get off with fines, though some are sentenced to prison for •a short time. Many privates will be brought up before ihe new court that meets today, and it is probable that the Sixth Virginia regiment or the loaders of the mutiny will tried. If .the leaders are found out they will b severely punished. The matter has been under investigation for some time and the fficere think they have the leaders. Charges of mutiny will be preferred against them. A TEXAS WONDER. Hall’s Great Discovery. A TEXAS STEAR Will be at the Academy of Music To night. Charles H. Hoyt's "A Texas Steer.” which comes to the Academy of Music to night is unquestionably the best of the many bright comedies from the pen of the clever author of "A Midnight Bell.” ”A Trip t to Chinatown,” ”A Temperance Town,” “A Milk White Flag,” and other playa which have afforded millions *of theatre-goers amusement during the past ten yean. “A Texas Steer” will always be a wel come visitor. It is as distinct and different from the so-called farce comedy as one could wish. It is true that it is a comedy, farcical in its nature, but it has a plot, a story of sufficient strength to carry the interest from the beginning to the end of the play. There has been no sacrifice of that peculiar faculty of caricature and comical run to exaggeration that has here tofroe distinguished Mr. Hoyt’s work, but these features have been modified by as sociation with incidents and suggestions of serious order, so that “A Texas Steer” is quite as amusing as other works of its author, when it undertakes to amuse, and yet it occupies a higher plane than the others. A considerable portion of the piece belongs to real comedy. The prologue is a scene in Texas, being especially well drawn in this tine. It is decidedly a bright piece of writing, not the less hu morous and heartyt for being keenly sa tirical at times. MAJ, MARION HARRIS Reaches New York Safe and Sound Frorn His Cuban Campaign. The city forces have been working on them for some time past and now have them in very good shapg. Third street will be finished in a few days and the hands will begin on Mulberry. Macon's pavement, both brick and gran ite. is the subject of much favorable com ment by visitors and several Atlantians have said that it is far the equal to any in' Atlanta. It will take some time to finish up with 'Mulberry street with the vitrified brick as it generally takes longer to do this kind of work. The whole street will have to be ploughed up and the dirt hauled away. Second street from Mulberry to Cherry is to be paved with brick #nd when these streets are finished all the business part of the city will be paved and will be sec ond to none in appearance. ASTHMA CAN BE CURED. A Noted Physician Will Prove this to Suf ferers in Macon Thursday. The progress of modern medical science has led to 'the discovery of successful methods of treatment for most of 'those maladies once' regarded as incurable. Asthma has always been regarded as be longing to this obstinate class baffling the skill of the greatest physicians. Thous ands of sufferers know by their own ex perience that little, if'any, relief has been • afforded them by the methods heretofore employed. Dr. Rudolph Sc’hiffman, the noted physician, has, after a long study'of asthma, and kindred diseases discovered a remedy which, not only gives instant relief in the severest saces of asthma, hay fever and brochi'tis, but has actually cured thousands whose cases had been pro nounced incurable. So complete is his confidence in his remedy that to overcome the skepticism of the public growing out of the failure of other remedies Dr. Schiff mann requests 'this paper to announce that all day Thursday. Dec. Sth, he wail offer a liberal sample box of Schiffmann’s Asthma Cure free of charge to all persons applying at Sol Hoge's drug store, corner Second and Mulberry streets. He believes that an actual test wil be the most con vincing and in fact the only way to over come the natural prejudice of thousands of asthmatics who have heretofore sough: relief in vain. Persons living out of town will receive a package fre§ postpaid by writing direct to Dr. R. Schiffmann, 315 Rosabel street, St. Paul , Minn., before Dec. l&th, as no free samples can be ob tained after this date. Send simply your name and address plainly written on a post card. * DR.
