every expectation, and wa« a most brilliant
affair. Th armory was beautifully deco
rated with paints and flowers, and of course
the walls were draped with the national
colors. The receiving committee were
General and'.Mrs. Wilson. Colonel and Mrs.
■Cecil, General and Mi.-. W. W. Gordon,
and Mrs. J. Marshall Johnston and they
most gracefully performed their pleasant
duty of receiving and introducing their
guests. The band was stationed in
the gallery and finer mu-ie than that

CIRCULAR FLOUNCES FROM HARPER'S BAZAR
A French eanjkd out in tones of
marquise brow n :i!iu«ira\es the tendency of
•trimming in linee. Ro.ys 1,1 rolled folds of
■the broad -loth of which the gown is made
follow the outline of the pointed panel of
the skirt and ths circular flounces, as well
■as of the sleeve and jacket. The latter is
odd and pretty—a fancy bolero which fas
■ten< diagonally across the bust with three
embroidered velvet buttons. It slopes
away front the front, disclosing above the
brown velvet belt an under-blouse of
btown and white polka-dotted taffeta. The
sleeve, ending with a curve over the hand,
io trimmed around the upper part with the
same silk and broldered with folds. The
crushed silk stock has a high sqpare wing
behind. The ruffles on the skirt extend
around >the back, drooping towards the
train, tinus accentuating the length of the
back breadth. These ruffles encircle the
back and sides, then turn up each eide
of th? front tv the first point of 'the panel,
■vi.h just fulness enough to allow them to
fine music, a perfect floor and any number
of delightful partners. At supper the
guests were seated at small tables, each
with its centerpiece of ferns and the dainty
..nd substantial repast was served in three
courses, boullion. salads and sweetbread
croquettes and delicious ice cream and
cake. Many who were at the ball have
pronounced it the best supper they have
ever eaten at any public entertainment,
which is a great compliment to the ladies
of the Macon Woman's Exchange, by
whom it was prepared and served: the
same ladies served the supper which was
so much enjoyed at the military ball last
week.
The receiving committee made a bril
liant appearance, the gentlemen in their
handsome uniforms and the ladies in love
ly evening gowns. Mrs. Wilson wore black
satin with white lace, Mrs. Gordon em
broidered chiffon over pearl grey satin,
Mrs. Cecil in black thread lace over black
satin. Mrs. J. M. Johnston in gray satin
with cut steel embroidery*
Among the other visiting ladies most of
whom were the hostesses of last evening
were Mrs. Logan in white satin trimmed
with blue. Mrs. Sam Small in heliotrope
silk. Mrs. Bailey Thomas in turquoise blue
satin, Mrs. Gaillard in green satin covered
with green chiffon. Miss Amanda Moore, of
Mobile, in white satin with heliotrope
chiffon ruffles. Miss Kohlsaat, of Chicago,
in corn colored satin. Among the ot? # s
who enjoyed the charming hospitality of
the officers and their wives, were Mrs.
Marshall j. Hatcher, Mrs. Lee Jordan, Mr.

A BIT OF ROMANCE.
For a moment the troubadour was in
clined to totter away crushed forever by
I her heartless refusal of his proffered love.
But presently another purpose possessed
: him. and. touching lightly again his guitar
■ he sang:
“The rose is red,
The violet ‘blue.
And white the horse
that goes with you.”
As for the lady fair, she tore her hair,
there being in that crude age no facilities
for bleaching the same. —Detroit Journal.
