Out in Kansas
lives a happy wife. She writes: “ I
have .used Mother's Friend before
two confinements. The last time I had
twins, and was in labor only a few min
utes. Suffered very little.” The reason
why
Mother’s Friend
does expectant mothers so much
good is because it is an external liniment,
to be applied upon the outside, where
much of the strain comes. It helps be
cause the pores of the skin readily absorb
it, and it comes into direct contact with
and is absorbed by the parts involved.
Morning sickness is quickly banished,
and nervousness is kept completely away.
The sense of dread and foreboding is nol
experienced, even during labor itself.
Confinement is short and almost without
pain. Recovery is quick and sure. Best
of all, Mother's Friend benefits the
unborn just as much as the expectant
mother, and when the little one comes i;
will be strong, lusty and healthy.

ABOUT PLAYS
AND PLAYERS.
The minstrel trope of Barlow Bros, will
appear at the Acadt ray of Music Monday
night for the first time in many years.
Since its last visit here the show has
greatly improved and is now said to be
one of the best on the stage. It is com
posed of the best, comedianw in the land
and their costumes are magnificent.
Although appearing here late in the sea
son. the show is sure to draw a crowd for
the name of the company always guaran
tees an audience an enjoyabe evening.
Harry Ward, one of the greatest living
comedians. i« with the show this year and
he makes a hit wherever he goes. A large
audience will no doubt greet the company
on their appearance here.
THE LIPVTIANB.
THE LI LI PUT LANS.
will be the engagement of the Liliputians
at the Academy of Music where they will
present their latest and greatest hit, the
grand spectacular play • “The Golden
Horseshoe” next Wednesday night. The
company is this year composed of nearly
one hundred people, headed, as usual, by
the clever midget actors, among them
Franz Ebert, Adolf Zink, Selina Goerner.
Bertha Jaeger, Hermann Ring, Max Wai
te/, Toni Meister, Elise Lau-Ebert and
Helene Lindn.u. It is doubtless the largest
traveling organization and the new pro
duction surpasses in elaborateness, sump
tuousness, brilliancy and tastefulness all
their previous efforts. Never before have
the Liliputians scored such a hit and un
qualified success as during their long run
in New York. Nightly the theatre was
crowded to its utmost capacity and it was
the same wherever they have appeared.
The little artists are today more popular
iggii
Mil'

than ever and have added thousands of
new admirers to the legion of old friends.
"The Golden Horseshoe" has an interest
ing and coherent plo’. It deals with an im
m< nee legacy which has been left by a
woman- in a Western town to midgets less
than three feet high. The woman’s broth
er. the sheriff of the place, a midget him
self, is convinced that up to the date
' named in the will no other small people
will turn up and is very disagreeably sur
prised when all of a sudden quite an ag
gregation of small folks appear and claim
their share in the inheritance.
The key to the treasure has been buried
by the eccentric testator at the bottom of
the sea where i is discovered by the small
est of the midgets. The play gives a bet
ter opportunity than ever before to all the
little people to display their versatile ta
j lents and to keep their audiences in con
i’ stunt merriment. Ebert's and Zink’s dis
j truises are as numerous as they are charm
ing. From a. natty sailor and volunteer
soldier they change to trans-atlamtic tour
ists, croa'king frogs, famous composers,
gallant war heroes and a dozen charac
ters. always gaining applause and admir
ation by their cuteness and finished act
ing. Miss Selma Goerner is a charming
scubrette as' of yore while Mis« Bertha
Jaeger and Miss iHelene Lindner as Eula
lie and Tootsie —two variety actresses —
• form a most entrancing couple. The music
is very catchy and some of the lively top
ical songs are bound to become popular.
Among the special scenic features the
music palace, the French ball room and
rhe bungalow scene changing into a sea
cave should be mentioned. The last is a
marvel of scenic art. The ?ta?e is set in
the semblance of a swamp. Tall marsh
mallows. cat-tails and lily-stalks tremble
in the mystic light of emerald miasms.
The three grand ballets, the Pink French
Ball, the Musicall Festival and the Sub
marine Dance are most original in design
and danced with grace and skill by a large
corps of yong and handsome coryphees.
The living war pictures on the revolving
stage with the Liliputians as our new na
tional heroes will call forth storms of ap
plause. They represent Hobson sinking
the Merrimac. Dewey’s victory ar Manila.,
Cervera’s sword surrender to Shafter and
many other important events, ending with
i a grand apotheosis, "Cuba Libre.”
All in all “The Golden Horseshoe” is
rhe best play the Liliputians ever had and
is equally entertaining to young and old
and fascinating and entrancing from be
sure of a hearty welcome taaroltDEmar
ginning to end.
